Default 29 Places to Go in 2009 - Atlanta is #1 in U.S.

29 Places to Go in 2009 - MSN Travel Articles

1. Atlanta

A modern, cosmopolitan destination with well-maintained historical roots (M.L.K. was born here), this Southern belle of a city can charm even the most jaded of visitors with its grade-A Southern hospitality, impressive arts-and-music scene and plethora of attractions. Catch a sporting event, tour historical landmarks dating from the Civil War to the Civil Rights Movement, visit the world’s largest aquarium, get behind the scenes at the Coca-Cola factory or CNN Studios or kick up your adrenaline a notch at an area theme park.

Why go in 2009: Atlanta’s art and hotel scenes are getting ready to explode. Plan a visit for two blockbuster exhibitions on King Tut and the Terracotta Army, on display well into spring — it’s the first time these two exhibits have simultaneously showed in one city. Even the French are taking notice of Atlanta: The High Museum of Art’s “The Louvre and the Masterpiece” exhibit is set to showcase on-loan Louvre masterpieces until early September. On the hotel front, two more W hotels are joining the cityscape, crowning Atlanta as the city with the most W Hotels after New York, while a new Hotel Palomar (Hotel Palomar Atlanta - A Luxury Boutique Hotel in Midtown Atlanta) and St. Regis (St. Regis Hotels and Resorts www.stregis.com) are on the radar for the coming calendar year.

That list was paid for, no doubt in my mind. Washington D.C. and Atlanta? More like the top ten places to get mugged. An obvious joke.

Uh ... the authors listed destinations alphabetically under each [continent]. This was NOT any ATL crowning or rating of any kind.
Perhaps before posting run an illiteracy check?

Double checking to make sure I am not missing a pun of some sort.

Should I state the obvious?

JJordan, get you Road atlas out and check the order, east to west of GA, AL and MS.

I think he means economically. Without Atlanta, Georgia would be mississippi. Savannah = Biloxi, Augusta = Jackson, Columbus = Tupelo, Macon = Natchez, Athens = Oxford.

Outside of Atlanta, Georgia is a pretty poor state.

Georgia is not a poor state at all. Georgia would be more like South Carolina if we didn't have Atlanta. Georgia is years ahead of Mississippi and Alabama.

Savannah = Charleston
Columbus = Greenville
Augusta = Columbia

If Atlanta wasn't in the state of GA. Augusta, Savannah, Macon, & Columbus. Would be double or triple the size of what they are now. Those cities wouldn't have had to compete against ATL. For state funds when it comes to infrastructure, and other projects. Augusta metro population is 560,000. If there wasn't no Atlanta. That means Augusta would still be the capital. Our metro population would be 1.5/2.5 million easily. I know Savannah would be at 1.2 million probably. Columbus and Macon would be at about 600,000-700,000 people in their metro area.
