Africans in Atlanta?
A friend of mine is moving to Atlanta from the Chi next month and wants to get a sense of what it's like. Is there a large African population down there, African stores, etc. Also, what do you guys do for fun. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks!@!

Tell your friend dont worry there is a large African population here in the area and plenty of "tropical" stores as they are called.

Ok, I've already had to delete two remarks because they borderline on racist remarks.
As a professional smart-ass, I'm more than aware of the difference between a snippy comment, and a TOS violation that will earn infraction points. Now's a good time to learn the differences.
Please read the original poster's question. Then, answer it.
Thank you.

Yeah, good point. He said Africans not African-Americans. I've only met one African here and I've not seen any African shops. I'm sure there are some but I wouldn't say there are a lot or that there is any African Community.

I don't know of a concentration of Africans in Atlanta. African people would be scattered all over metro Atlanta and not concentrated in a particular area, this is true for many people from other countries / continents. For the most part, Atlanta doesn't have pockets of one ethnic group concentrated in one apparent location, typically it is mixed. I know some African people from my work, for example, and one lives in Marietta and the other one is in Stone Mountain.
As mentioned many times, the Buford Highway area in Dekalb and part of Gwinnett has many foreign shops and stores from all kinds of places. I would think there are some African stores in the Buford Highway (Doraville) area, but right now I cannot think of any.

There are large groups of Africans and Carribean people in GA. They are all over the place but larger concentrations seem to be in the Stone Mountain, Lithonia, & Marietta areas. In GA there is always something to do especially if you are a single man and or people with families.

A lot of Liberians and Ghanians live in Gwinnett County and Stone Mountain. Nigerians are everywhere but mainly in Cobb county, and Chamblee is full of East Africans; Ethiopians, Somali people, and Eritrean.

I know of one African shop here in the West End and another in Decatur. There are probably plenty of others throughout the Atlanta metro that I am not aware of...Come on down to "A" and mix and mingle your friend will find plenty of things to do depending on what their interests are...We won't bite, for those of us that have their full set of teeth, anyway....
