Just because you see black people in Atlanta driving nice cars doesnt mean that this is the capital of "rich black America".
Sorry to burst your bubble, but just because metro Atlanta is a cosmopolitan area with many upper-income residents and also a large black population does not mean that there are more upper income blacks here than elsewhere.
Please, correct me if I am wrong with some factual and reliable references.

Yes, there are statistics actually. Blacks in DeKalb County, one of the largest metro Atlanta counties, have the highest average income than any county in the country after Prince George's in D.C.

Whites generally want to live around white people. Nothing wrong with that at all. Whatever makes you happy. There's a reason for the "north" and the "south" side of Atlanta. It's not a coincidence that the suburbs are like that. Try not to kid yourself people. Unless your a far left liberal, you typically live around your own race.
I'm in Alpharetta for a reason. I lived in Henry County and had enough of that crap. On that note, I'm in the minority at work. It's probably about 80% black, but guess what? They are all great people to work with(except for a select few, work ethic). We all get along great and i've made some friends there in the process. Some of them live here in Alpharetta, even in Milton.
Well enough of this, Go Falcons 2009! Brooking needs to retire though.

My goodness, the generalizations in this post are astonishing. First of all, about your statement that Blacks only live in DeKalb to be segregated is a lie and an overgeneralization. On the contrary, MANY blacks in DeKalb and historically speaking, have moved closer to white neighborhoods because they assumed they would be better while whites have moved away. You clearly don't understand the history of white flight.
When my family first moved to DeKalb County, it was very mixed..my immediate neighbors--ones who lived directly to the left and right of our house, and two houses in front of us-- were in fact all older white people.
My closest friends from my neighborhood were white. Slowly but surely, they moved away one by one as more black people moved in.
I was raised in DeKalb County, lived there for almost 20 years, and have always felt safe..and we weren't even in a necessarily "affluent" neighborhood- it was average middle class.
Regardless, who cares if Black people move to neighborhoods with Black people? And it is not parallel to most whites, who move away from increasingly Black neighborhoods because of stereotypical fears and not merely race solidarity.

Both cities saw a rise in african american population the same years Atlanta saw a decline.
I am only 16, but when I graduate college I wanna move to the new black mecca. By then (2015) Atlanta will have been dethroned. But by what city?!

Illiterate people are seldom taken very seriously. Like the "homeboys" with their pants half way down their butts calling everybody "dude" and "sup".

LOL at the black population in atlanta shrinking. i don't know about you guys but atlanta is easily the blackest place i've ever been. i mean we're talking about a city that a good portion of it resembles sub-saharan africa. i've seen cities like oakland, ca and LA that have really lost their black populations to immigrants and gentrification. atlanta is nowhere near that, it's still filled with crime ridden third-world esque enclaves that even gentrifiers won't touch with a ten foot pole, it's not shrinking and won't anytime soon.

Wow. Lol.
Behold the post above...
This is why:
1. Affirmative action still exists.
2. Racism is major still a major issue in this country.

Y'know if people want to continue their ignorance and move to whatever white enclave they can find to retreat from people of color, it won't bother me any. Our housing will remain inexpensive and our quality of life high, while you run around with your head cut off fleeing reality, spending 3 hours trying to get to work and back.
Btw, younger whites are indeed moving to metro Atlanta at a fast clip, but that doesn't mean Atlanta will stop being attractive to blacks. It just means white folks with more sense (hopefully) and black folks will squeeze out the folks who can't stand change and live in a vacuum of ignorance.

Yes, Sir. Agreed. (I just can't wait for that generation of people to leave...Earth. It sounds messed up, but their state of mind is worse than what I said.)
