ATLtransplant2 is on a distinguished road
Default Is Deaton Creek or Sun City at Peachtree good for singles

I've been checking out Deaton Creek and Sun City at Peachtree for my mother who will be retiring next year. Are either of these good places for retired singles? I was also wondering if anyone that currently lives there could comment on their experience. Does it live up to the hype or is it overrated?

Deacon Creek is the highest selling Del Webb community in America right now.
I checked it out personally for my parents, but they are going elsewhere do to their age. I can say that if I stay in Georgia in 5 years I will be looking to move there.

The place is top notch, many couples and many widowed / single in the villa's. It has a huge gym, indoor and outdoor pool, walking areas, and many activities.

It borders Chateau Elan, it is gated, and now having a large hospital complex being built next door.

Acceptance of retired singles may be one issue but there's a lot of other issues that should be investigated.

I would certainly investigate the quality of the construction. Through the years, I've read numerous articles about homeowner lawsuits filed against Pulte.

Personally, I've seen shoddy Pulte construction up close and personal. Around 10-years ago I looked at a very upscale Pulte home under construction, and one wall was not square with the other walls. I was just amazed that the house had this obvious defect. The wall and baseboard had waves and curves.

The residents of Sun City, Hilton Head, are not particulary pleased with a few changes in their bylaws. You might want to check that out on the Internet.

I really don't know how the financial meltdown will affect senior citizen communities in the future. Undoubtedly, there will be some type of impact. Many retirees may have to work past 65 or 70, sell their houses for less money, and have less income in their golden years due to smaller nest eggs.
