Question Need help with Dunwoody/Sandy Springs neighborhoods

My wife and I are looking to be first time home buyers soon. We recently relocated to the ATL and are renting currently. We like the Dunwoody area a lot because a few years back we rented a place there before a career choice caused us to move up North.

Our constraints/choices are:

We are looking to pay no more than $475K for a single family home and $375K if we settle for a town home.

We want to live no more than a 5 minute drive from a MARTA station because we both work downtown and want to park and ride.

We don't have kids yet, but we are trying to and school choices will also be a key factor for us

We have just started looking at houses online and the problem we are facing is that we don't know what zip codes to search in. We know the 30328 zip code. Searching for homes in "Dunwoody, GA" give us neighborhoods in Dekalb county, as opposed to Fulton county. We are a bit confused as to what constitutes the Dunwoody area.

Can anyone suggest other zip codes that might be relevant? Are there any subdivisions that fit our requirements that people might recommend?

Thanks!

A poster on here, lastminutemom, (she'll help you soon, I'm sure) can give you a lot information on the Dunwoody area.

If I was looking, I would go for a neighborhood/house in the Kingsley Elementary or Chestnut Elementary districts.

Look for a zip code map online. Dunwoody IS DeKalb County. At least until they became the city of Dunwoody. The 30328 zip IS Sandy Springs.

30338 will give you pure Dunwoody almost all DeKalb.
30350 and 30360 will give you some Dunwoody but in different counties.

The city of Dunwoody is all in DeKalb. The city of Sandy Springs is all in Fulton. But there is a part of Sandy Springs that is in Fulton that is called Dunwoody. The bulk of Dunwoody is DeKalb though.

Your price point should be doable in this market. I would buy a SFH over a townhome for appreciation reasons.

As someone else said you can search by high schools on some of the sites,

Riverwood/North Springs are Sandy Springs, Dunwoody is well Dunwoody.

That is the zip in the Perimeter area; most of Dunwoody is 30338.

try Mill Glen in Dunwoody (30338). School is Austin - very good and you should be able to find a ranch for 450,000.

Actually, there are several homes in 30350 that are still technically in Dekalb...those that sit on the Dunwoody/Dekalb side of Dunwoody Club Drive.

For $475k, there are a pretty good number of options in the 30338 zip codes, but just know that there will be some degree of "fix-up" necessary, and you will probably have to sacrifice something like having a flat yard or a basement, or perhaps being on a corner lot or busy road or something.

I believe there is a listing on Dunwoody Walk (across from Wynterhall on Chamblee-Dunwoody Rd) for the mid 400's...a 'city home' and not a 'fixer' at all.
