Update on Grant Park Restaurant Killing: Bartender was not executed.

Please read article below:

Bartender wasn't shot execution-style, police say | ajc.com (http://www.ajc.com/metro/content/metro/atlanta/stories/2009/01/10/atlanta_bartender_killed.html?cxntlid=homepage_tab _newstab - broken link)

There was so much misinformation going around about the killing/robbery. Makes you wonder how the misinformation got out there...

If this new information is indeed correct (and a third set of "new facts" may come out), it just goes to prove a point I was making earlier:

I fully believe some murderers did not have murder in their hearts and minds before they committed their heinous crimes. These killers may have fully intended, as they planned their robbery, to ONLY rob. Not kill.

I'm not excusing the killers, not at all. Please no one think that. I'm just making this point: I think bad economies can drive some people into a life of crime they might not have gone into otherwise. And once they acquire the guns and begin their armed robberies, the chances of them shooting and killing someone in the commission of these robberies dramatically increases.

i suspect our prisons are full of killers who just planned on robbing someone and scaring them with a gun.

Thanks for the update.

Still, it doesn't take away from the fact that the robbers were confronting only one man, who complied with their demands, yet they still shot him. Initially in the leg, ok, but regardless - the guy was doing what he was told to do and they still SHOT him. Then after putting them in a room, they shot through the door, knowing that bullets were exiting the weapons, going into the room where they just put two people.

I'm glad the specifics are being cleared up, but we're still dealing with people who have the "shoot first" mentality, so they are still among the more dangerous types of criminals.

well now that he was not shot execution style and it was a red blooded robbery killing i am sure he feels much better. now its an entirely different matter. i expect his family and the police will have to apologize to the killer. america handles criminals just like its naughty children, its doesn't.

I agree completely with that. Bottom line: Whether the person meant to kill you or just happened to kill you in a freak-out moment, you're still dead. And that's a tragedy.

It's terrible, awful either way. The ONLY point I'm trying to make is I fear these incidents will increase with the downturn in the economy.

I don't think serial killers and sociopaths operate on an economic clock. But I very much believe economic downtowns spur more people than usual to turn to robberies and other crimes, and that in turn dramatically increases the likelihood of more shootings, that might not have happened otherwise.

I am for life in prison with no parole or the death penalty, no matter which way it was: premeditated execution or heat-of-the-moment killing in the commission of armed robbery.

Both present frightening dangers.

who gives a ****, the guy is still dead and that is all that matters, fry them regardless. Can someone say 'Nichols Trial' all over again?

What say the anti-death penalty people?

If you bring a gun to a robbery and discharge it, you clearly intend to kill. If you didn't intend to kill, you'd have brought something less lethal such as a knife to do your robbing. You don't just discharge a pistol and expect not to kill or maim your target.

I don't believe any of this for one second. The City is trying to CYA because of all the negative publicity. Its all too convenient that they just came out with "special information" stating that a police officer was across the street from Standard 10 Minutes before;therefore this was not a result of decreased police protection. Carla Smith needs to be ashamed of herself. The Police Chief( who attended Sherees part on Real Housewives) doesn't want the city in a panic knowing that 4 vicious killers are on the loose targeting folks.

GT-FYI , this liberal has no issue with a death penalty anymore.
