Anyone know of a good home alarm system in Cobb county that offers a discount for USAA insurance?

I use Interlink, through Cobb EMC and get a discount on my homeowners insurance. $18.95/mo. Most insurance companies give a discount for a monitored alarm system.

We were locked into a three year contract with ADT for about $32 a month. It is up next month and we will look into your suggestion. Thanks Also found out that our insurance company goofed and applied the discount for having an alarm system to our rental, which is my son's home, which is a much smaller home.

One thing to all of you......check out the description and ammenities your homeowner's insurance has listed. They had us down as a stucco home, which we are not. There were a few other mistakes also.

I have a few companies I would recommend - LOUD, Ackerman, or Monotronics. I refer a lot of my customers to these three.

And yeah... review your policy regularly (at least every other year) you'll be glad you did

To be honest i always felt the home alarm thing was a joke. My parents have one and the idea that they call the house before they call the police was kinda silly to me. I think they really only serve a purpose when no one is home If you get a break in. Ours went off and sometimes it would take 2-3 minutes for them to even call.

ADT tries to contact the homeowner directly via the voice panel, then they try to contact the numbers on the first contact (ECV) list, and only if all of those fail (or we tell them to) will they call the police.

They don't call the house number in our case at all -- it isn't on the list.

Yes, that's why we have an alarm system in the first place.

Though we also sometimes set it when we're home.

My point was kinda the fact that rarely do they stop anything. A burglar would be long gone by the time they even call the police.

Has there even been a study of how often alarmed homes get robbed vs non-alarmed homes? I think that would be very interesting. Though it would only really be accurate if the comparison was in the same subdivision or community.

You can have your alarm company call the police first if your alarm goes off, rather than trying several phone contacts.

I don't think it's possible to actually prevent theft. It isn't that hard to get through (or around) even a sturdy door or barred window with the right knowledge and equipment.

You can provide deterrents of various types, of course, but the cost starts to exceed the benefits rather quickly for many people.

We really don't have that much to steal in the first place, so hopefully that is a deterrent in itself.
