Default Brookhaven or Dunwoody - Which is better?

My family is moving down to the Atlanta area this summer from the New
England area. We are looking at homes in the Brookhaven and Dunwoody area. We have two young children and would like to move to an area that is family friendly. Both areas are close to where my husband will be working. Just want to know what your opinions are on these two areas. Thanks!

I don't know much about Brookhaven, but I have been through Dunwoody on a number of occasions. If you decide to move there, I think you'll like the area. From what I can remember, it's clean and very nice. Good luck on your move.

Either area is nice, but I used to live in Brookhaven and it's pretty nice. Dunwoody may have just slightly higher traffic congestion as you tend to have to deal with getting on I-285 more (the beltway).

One perk of living in Brookhaven is that you have a MARTA rail station there (our subway system) The interactive system map is here (copy and paste URL): http://www.itsmarta.com/maps/viewer.asp (broken link) That way if you want to go downtown, you would only have a short drive to the station with its large parking lot (or walk to it depending on where you buy or rent), and you can get downtown that way instead of having to drive. The Buckhead area and Lenox Square mall (one of the city's nicer malls) is only a 2-3 mile drive south of Brookhaven as well.

The downside is price. It's a hot area now and it's very expensive.

Dunwoody is still nice, but not as nice looking as it was in the past. A few years ago they were hit by what is called the "Dunwoody tornadoes".. a couple of F2 tornadoes that really tore that area up. The homes have been rebuilt, but literally thousands of trees in that area were ripped up. It was once very "woodsy" and forested, but now isn't as much so due to that. You tend to see more stipped-down lawns, etc until things eventually grow back.
