I agree with the other posts - East Atlanta Village, Reynoldstown and Grant Park would be good options. They are all more liberal areas that would be accepting of a gay lifestyle. The folks that talked about East Point and some of the Westside aren't being realistic about folks there being accepting of a gay couple - I think that would be less likely there.

Sorry, You're misinformed.
I on purpose am posting a Nov 2000 CL article about East Point just to show how off base that perception is. In other words this is old news.

And another about East Point and domestic partnership.

East Point has openly gay council and board members in greater ratios then probably any municipality in Metro Atlanta. Plus it has been one of the Metro's destinations for homosexuals for some time now. If you are so wrong about East Point why should anyone think you are right about intown neighborhoods on the Westside?

I hear so many conflicting positions on East Atlanta. The house we are looking at is in what appears to be Eastland Heights, just west of Bouldercrest DR SE (Flat Shoals Ave). Is this a decent area? I know "decent" is a subjective term, but hopefully you get the general idea. Not an enormous amount of crime (some is OK), has fun or eclectic restaurants or coffee shops, not extremely broken-down (up-and-coming is cool)... etc...
Thanks for the input!

Both the Westview and Capitol View neighborhood organization websites profile homeowners in same-sex domestic partnership relationships... so I am thinking the assumption the Westside may not be gay-friendly may not be entirely accurate. The Westside of old may not have been terribly gay-friendly, but all the neighborhoods mentioned up thread happen to be areas in the midst of urban renewal - thus the demographics of these areas are rapidly changing.
I also have no idea why mswagner222 is assuming the OP is in a gay relationship, the OP's screen name is "TaylorPC" and "Taylor" is most often a female name, and the OP said she[?] and her[?] boyfriend are moving to Atlanta... no mention of seeking a gay-friendly area was made in the OP or in subsequent posts by the OP... that is, unless I overlooked something... if so, I stand corrected.
I see the OP is now asking about an East Atlanta area, so I'll retreat and let others address that question... I just didn't want to slight - or at least what was perceived by me to be a slight - against the Westside to stand uncontested.

Thanks for the input on the West side... I've been told this is not a great area to look, so it is nice to hear there are yet more options for us to consider I'm sure there are some nice places in the West side, so we'll have to drive around and see for ourselves.
For what it's worth, yes, I am in a gay relationship, so living in a gay-friendly, or at least gay-tolerant, community would be ideal for us. We love Atlanta for this reason - because here in St. Louis, you almost HAVE to be in the closet. Atlanta seems to be more accepting in general.

I'm a little late in chiming in on this conversation, but I wanted to share that we have a good number of gay/lesbian couples in Westview. Between East Ontario, West Ontario, and Stokes (three neighboring streets) I know of 8 gay/lesbian couples. So please be assured if you look into living in Westview you will not be alone!
