Default Langston Hughes High School and Johns Creek High School

Fulton County has named its two new high schools that will open in August 2009.

Langston Hughes High School will open in South Fulton County:

Welcome to the New Langston Hughes High School

Johns Creek High School will open in North Fulton County in Johns Creek:

Johns Creek High School

They will be the "Johns Creek Gladiators." Now, all of the North Fulton cities (north of the Chattahoochee) will have a high school namesake...Roswell, Milton, Alpharetta, and now Johns Creek. A good name for the new high school in my opinion.

**Some of you might find the process by which they named Langston Hughes High School pretty interesting. A big reason for naming the school Langston Hughes was in response to an article that was written in the last few months. The article talked about how "school-naming" in our society (the whole U.S.) had shifted away from naming schools after people worthy of emulation or after great people in our country. Check out the Langston Hughes High School Naming Process:

Oh wow. I thought they were just going to call it South Fulton High School. Glad they're naming the school after such a great man.

I think it's a good name as well. If you look at school naming process, you will see that it came close to being called "South Fulton High" (as well "Maynard Jackson High", "Fairburn High", and "Renaissance High" among others...)

The pro/con list is particularly interesting.
