There are several other counties which border DeKalb and Gwinnett that may be worth consideration--may have growth. ?? Barrow and Jefferson??--in the area around Athens.

As I stated in a thread I began, Fulton County is going through the same thing. There is a hiring freeze for next year as of now. All recruitment fairs have been canceled.

Thanks, you know I was thinking about those counties. I'm not familar with those areas, but I was thinking maybe I should consider those areas I'm not so familar with as well, and now I will. Barrow county is one I'm looking to put in my app with hopefully. I'm thinking about the area around Rome? And Rome itself...?

Yes, although I'm not familiar with the small counties, I would try for them. I don't know how they are impacted.

Go Gators!!!!!
UF Education Grad myself!
This is not going to be a good year for GA teachers as so many have mentioned.
You can use the teachgeorgia.org website as a starting place. That is how I first got hired here in GA before kids and a family where in the picture. I was actually completing my graduate year and missed graduation because the school year had already started here.
But times have changed and teaching jobs are not abundant around here these days with hiring freezes, displaced teachers, and an increase in class size.
When I returned to work after staying home with my 2 kids, I emailed schools DIRECTLY with my resume. It was easier for me though because I lived in the area and knew the places I would consider teaching in. I would definitely stick to the smaller counties....fewer displaced teachers. I'm in Gwinnett and I don't see much of a chance- at least not right now. We just got contracts this week so they won't even know their need for at least 6 weeks. Though they are reporting a drop of like 90% from previous years in new hires.
Best of luck.....

gatormom- thank you for your help! From what everyone is saying I am nervous about finding a job! Jobs no matter what the profession are hard to come by now adays.
I plan to apply online to as many counties as possible that are within a reasonable distance and then email my resume as well. I am pretty unfamiliar with the area like I said, what are some smaller counties around the druid hills area that you would recommend?
