No. I guess it might be a bit cooler there in the summer. My brother raves about Seattle summers. But I guess the rainy winter spring and fall cancel out the nice summer for me! My only left coast home was in LA.......hot in the summer!

Yes. COL has gone up here but is still better than the NE and the climate is much milder.

Really?? I keep hearing that housing is very affordable here and I just assumed that people were talking about the 'burbs. I've been looking in Midtown, Va-Hi, Inman Park, etc. and after a couple weeks I'm still in sticker shock. I'm looking at major fixer-uppers or tear downs for $350k!

So far for us it has been half good half bad. We love living here (me - living here for 4 months, my wife - about 7 months) after moving here from Lexington KY. There is so much more to do here versus up in KY.
Job wise it has been great for my wife (many many more lawyering opportunities), but horrible for me. I left a good job in Lexington and so far have not been able to find a new job down here.

So far it's been a great experience living here. I got my job here after getting my Master's Degree and I'm still here a year later. Housing is relatively affordable for what you get, and the social scene is ok. I will say I was a bit disappointed with what seems to be a snobbish and shallow mentality in some places, but you have that in any big city I guess.
Overall, I give it an 8/10.

Economically? Yes
Financially? Done very well ... no complaints w/two properties (30306/30066).
Socially?
Other than that ... after 18 years in Metro Atlanta - I'm looking forward to moving back to my home State of California to retire.

Yes, for the most part. The main negative is the increased distance between us and our old friends and family (they're 1100 miles further away), but almost everything else has been either positive or a fairly even trade-off.
I think we got lucky, though, in that the area we were introduced to right away (southern Smyrna) seems to be a very good fit for us in many ways.
