Question Marietta, GA - Houses for Rent

I am looking to rent a house in Marietta. Could anyone advise of the best neighborhoods around the area. We want to be close to town but in a private setting. I have pets and am not sure if that is going to be a problem. My animals cats (2) and dog (1) are house trained. My family consist of my aunt, mother, husband, and myself. Some of the houses that I found for rent are fairly inexpensive but I have seen some on the expensive side too. I just want to make sure that the ones that are not that expensive are not in high crime neighborhoods. I have been to several crime rating websites, but I think that those are good for an ideal, however, I believe crime ratings are general and differ from state to state. So If I could get some feedback regarding some of the safer neighborhoods that would be great. Or if people could advise of their crime experience or lack of in Marietta, that would be helpful. For example, when I look up Tacoma WA, it had a high crime rate, however I work in Tacoma and have seen minimumal crime there. The worst I have seen is traffic stops and some car chases. So, although they state the crime rate is higher in Tacoma than in Gig Harbor, this is really not that much crime. Again, I am trying to narrow down neighbors and not cities. Thanks for any help you can provide in advance.

Probably, if you are looking at safe/good/convenient neighborhoods, please try Shallowford and Johnson Ferry road area.

Go to this link Click for a Zip Code Boundary Map., enter 30066 (a Marietta zip code) and zoom in slightly. You can see that there are several Marietta zip codes (essentially all the 3006x ones). The city of Marietta is relatively small, but "Marietta" addresses cover a wide area. As you can see on the map, the intersection of Shallowford and Johnson Ferry roads is actually right on the boundary between 30062 and 30075. 30075 is all Roswell addresses (not Marietta) although a portion of it is in Cobb County. I live there myself.

To get help with narrowing down your search a bit, you'd need to explain why Marietta, which part of Marietta (city proper, or not), etc.

I heard that the area so-called "East Cobb" is not real Marietta. The east Cobb is an unincorated part of the Cobb County and uses the city name Marietta. I also heard that if you live in the city of Marietta, you need to pay the city tax. I live in East Cobb Marietta, and don't pay city tax. East cobb area is very popular among the parents who are looking for good schools....

Well as mentioned before we did all these crime ratings and also wanted to be close enought to Atlanta that if we need to drive there it would take less than an hour. Also, we prefer to live in small communities. Currently we live in Gig Harbor,WA which is a small town but the big city is right across the bridge. We love nature and love having trees surrounding us. So, when looking over all the places we thought Marietta would be a nice place to start. Once we are there we would be able to find other areas that my interest us. Hope that helps.

Hello friends- my family and I have decided to move to Marietta from our small town in Montana. We are moving so that I may attend Life Univ. to attend Chiropractic school. I have never been to Georgia, and don't know anyone who ever has. My sons will be 3 and 13 years old. I've read on this thread some of the responses you gave the thread starter which are very helpful. Are there any suggestions on where to live within reasonable driving distance to my school? I'm really excited because everything I read about Georgia online makes me think that I'll feel right at home. Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated. I will probably start school this fall. Thanks for your help

Looks like Life University is located just north of Dobbins Air Reserve Base near the center of Cobb County, which means you have a lot of options. Marietta, "East Cobb", Kennesaw, Smyrna, Vinings, etc.

What type of housing (and price range) are you looking for?

Thanks for your reply- I actually started a new thread on the subject- Didn't know if anyone would read my request on this one. We are looking at spending probably between 800-900 a month on an apt or small house. probably at least a 2 bed, 1 bath. within reasonable driving distance to my school? Right now, I drive 2 hours a day to attend the University of Montana, so anything closer would be great! We would like to live in a descent neighborhood that would be suitable to raise 2 boys, that have a good school system. If there is a neighborhood that has a volunteer fire dept, that would be great, as I am currently on a fire dept. here in Montana. We are very friendly people, and are both well educated, so if there is an area that a family like ours would fit in, that would be a bonus. Although we are on a limited budget, we don't want to live in the "Ghetto", if there is such a thing in Marietta.
