However, getting into one of the East Cobb elementary schools isn't going to be any easier than the Buckhead ones, maybe even harder for some of them.
Mount Bethel Elementary district, for example, is the easternmost part of zip code 30068. The average new home in that area is over $1 million, older homes are $500,000+, and there are no rental options at all in the area - everyone there is a homeowner. In fact, over 95% of East Cobb is comprised of homeowners. Out of the few rental options they are mostly older houses than are being rented out by their owners - there aren't any apartments in those elementary school districts.
The easier option would be to look at Alpharetta instead of East Cobb - the elementary schools there are excellent and you can actually find affordable rental housing. Of course, Alpharetta is much farther north than either East Cobb or Buckhead....

I have considered relocating to the 30068 zip code. I have found a few rentals well under the original posters price range, and homes available for purchase starting at 250k. I did find a couple rentals available, within her parameters, in buckhead. There were many more available in East Cobb.

I believe you, but you didn't read my post correctly.
30068 is a very horizontally lengthy zip code. The western part of 30068 is Marietta and the eastern part of 30068 is East Cobb.
The Mount Bethel elementary school district is the far easternmost part of 30068. This part of the zip code does not have any rentals and is very expensive, and is the area I was talking about.
The western part of 30068 has homes from $250k and some rentals, but it is located in the Powers Ferry elementary school district - not a good school at all.

When searching real estate in the Mount Bethel School District(and other highly ranked elementary schools) I was able to find Single Family homes starting at 250k, and some rentals within the Original Posters parameters. There were not a whole lot, but there were some available.

Morris Brandon vs. Warren Jackson elementary?
Hi,
We are considering moving to the Buckhead area for our daughter to attend either the Morris Brandon or Warren Jackson elementary school. Does anyone has opinions on which one suits us better? With the rezone we probably will have a chance of going to either one of the two. My husband and I are both teaching at Emory so after school program is a must. I know that Brandon doesn't have such program, so where do working moms send their children for after school? Also since we are foreigners (daughter is American born), which school is more international-friendly?
Thanks a lot for any inputs!

Our daughter went to Warren Jackson for a few years. Overall we were very pleased with the entire experience. Good teachers, nice kids and families, active PTA. When she left to go to private school she did feel a little behind although she had taken every advanced placement course available to her. Morris Brandon is also a great school. There are numerous choices for after school. Email me offline and I'll share some of the resources we used.

Since you will be teaching at Emory, I recommend looking into the Fernbank, Mary Lin, and Morningside districts...as well as the elementary schools in the City Schools of Decatur.
Also try the elementary schools in the Briarcliff/LaVista corridor (also very popular with Emory people)...Sagamore Hills, Oak Grove, Briarlake, and Laurel Ridge.
Good Luck!

If you are going to look in East Cobb you'll fnd many nice homes in the Tritt, Murdock and Shallowford Falls school districts. All of theses schools are excellent.
