Atlanta has another small bump into DeKalb further north of the main snout that sticks out to the east that contains Lake Claire, Candler Park, East Lake, East Atlanta, etc. What is this area called? Something like Johnson Park or Johnson Hills or something like that if memory serves me right.

The very beautiful neighborhood of Johnson Estates (which is generally considered part of Morningside).

Well, it kinda makes sense...sense I guess further south gets into "Toco Hills" and "North Decatur"...further east is still "North Decatur" and "Leafmore ___"...to the west of NDH is "Merry Hills", etc.

Yes, I believe that if you're moving up LaVista 30329 picks up where 30324 leaves off at Briarcliff (Merry Hills) then becomes North Druid Hills at N Druid Hills Rd. It changes into 30033 (North Decatur) at Clairmont.
'North Druid Hills' as a community is really just a cluster of small neighborhoods that were cobbled together for the purpose of forming a residents' association. Merry Hills was developed in the 50's, and surprisingly did not have a residents' association until recently. Two events fomented this:
- the zoning designation of the Toco Hills and BriarVista areas as a 'Town Center', thus opening the door for much denser development.
- the announcement of the Sembler multi-use project at Briarcliff and N Druid Hills Rd.
Sorry that I'm getting OT.

Thanks, Lovin...
I read further on the neighborhood websites yesterday (North Druid Hills, Merry Hills, and Lavista Park)...and I now understand the history, the locations, the new "fervor/energy,"...everything you just listed.
These associations are so good for the area. I think these neighborhoods (Plus the Emory area and stretching east to Oak Grove/Vista Grove) should be annexed by the City of Atlanta.

Great idea in theory. NW DeKalb has much more in common with Atlanta than in the rest of the county.
If the city would get it's own house in order, then I could support it.

But, really, why?
I understand how this would be beneficial to the City of Atlanta but the economic damage to DeKalb County would be 'significant'.

Too bad...IMO the county leadership has shown bad faith to this part of the county (that is to say, the wealthiest part) for years. Little concern has been shown for quality of life, and a premium has been put on creating high density development with little to no consideration for impact. NW DeKalb has been regarded as little more than a revenue generator for services consumed by the southern part of the county. Gannon and Rader have done their very best, but IMO they were fighting the tide most of the time.
Ask the good people of the new city of Dunwoody how they felt about their treatment by the county. They voted with their feet.

I suppose so. I'm still shaking my head over the 'meeting' between the new CEO, Burrell Ellis and Deputy Sheriff Bolton. It doesn't sound good and I can only imagine how much more reform/restructuring will be necessary.
I know I wouldn't want to pay taxes to DeKalb and the City of Atlanta unless there was some exceptional advantage.
Fingers crossed that the economic picture will improve. I want them to finish building something at the corner of Briarcliff and N. Druid Hills and to proceed with what they said they were planning to do with Executive Park. I certainly wouldn't mind a movie theater nearby, which is neither here nor there.

I wouldn't take that as a bad thing necessarily. Good to see Ellis taking a stand.
Executive Park is a done deal and moving forward...drive through there and you'll see one application for zoning variance after another. The changes in there will be profound.
Sembler seems to have fallen off the radar, however.
My hope is to get the infrastructure ("The Loop", bus lanes, reduction in driveway "cuts" along Briarcliff and NDH) before all of this happens. But the county is unlikely to act until the developers recommit (and the TAD funds are secured).
