Default Dog Training in Atlanta

I was curious if anybody had recommendations for dog training schools/teachers in the Atlanta area. I am in the Midtown area so ITP would be most conveniant but I would certainly consider somebody that is located OTP if they were highly acknowledged.

Please let me know thoughts, opinions, suggestions, and successes (and/or failures) you've had with dog training your K-9 companions in the Atlanta area....

Thanks!

I think this school is first rate: ADOG (Dog Training Obedience, Rally, CGC, Puppy, Pet Training - Atlanta - Puppy Pet CGC)

They have classes in everything from basic puppy obedience to highest level AKC competition.

I took my dog through a couple of levels of classes beyond CGC (AKC's Canine Good Citizen certification - recommended for any dog). Then I got busy at work, stopped practicing enough with my dog and kinda fizzled out. I regret it though. My young golden retriever really enjoyed the classes and had lots of aptitude. I should really get it together to get back there.

Don't go with Petsmart. It's cheap and all, but it's not good. You and your dog will have a much better experience with a more professional trainer. I found a few that seemed promising when I was researching training options before I settled on ADOG. However, that's the one I tried, and I recommend it highly.

i have limited experience, before i moved here - i took my dog to petsmart for training & would say it was a good program. I'm not sure if the local petsmart locations offer training here or not (i would assume they do & there is one in midtown). also, i have a few friends who speak highly of jabula dog academy in decatur. and of course, there are several dog boarding facilities intown, you might check with them to see if they have any places or people to refer you to.

Default Thanks for Feedback

Thanks everybody for their suggestions!!!! I've heard to stay away from Petsmart as it is generally hit-or-miss if you have a good dog teacher and more professional instruction can be found elsewhere.

I think I'll look into both ADOG and Jabula for my rambunctious pug

Thanks again though for the suggestions.....

I used Best in Breed Dog Training - you can google them to find contact info. They come to your house on your schedule and work with you and your dog for an hour each week. I was pleased with the difference it made in my dog. I'm not sure how familar you are with dog training, I had never done any before, I can tell you it is alot of work for you as well as for your dog.
Good luck!

Since you are in midtown you might also check with the 'Barking Hound' pet center for training and day care, on/near Howell Mill Rd not far from the Atlanta Humane Society, which also offers training courses.
