Default Walking/Pub Trans Lifestyle

My brother and his wife are moving to the Atlanta area. Neither can drive for medical reasons, although they are not handicapped. They work in the city of Atlanta.

Are there any desirable neighborhoods in the Atalnta areas where

1) They could commute to the city of Atlanta

2) Where they could live a lifestyle in which they could walk to stores, etc or perhaps hop on a bus.

Thanks so much in advance!

Near downtown Decatur would be optimal, but houses are expensive. Candler Park or Inman Park would be good, too. All of those have Marta stations within walking distance, as well as shopping and restaurants, but they're all expensive due to the desire to avoid long commutes.

Perhaps somewhere near the Chamblee Marta station would be suitable. There's been a lot of development (the good kind) in that area over the last few years...condos, restaurants, etc. where it used to be slums or empty expanses of concrete.

Atlantic station latest and hottest place in midtown, Atlanta. It seems that they got free shuttle to train station as well. But those areas are pretty expensive, IMO.

Also, there are some apartments near train station like Lenox, Lindbergh station.
