White flight is what happened, what else do you want me to call it!! Right or wrong Clayton county went from 70 to 80% white in the 80's & 90's to majority black in about ten years. Pointing that out makes me a racist? Because I choose to leave like practically everyone else I know makes me a closet racist?

I do have to point out that a lot of the black folks moving into Henry county are moving into 300,000K homes and up. Just because an area becomes black doesn't mean it becomes ghetto

I also dont think the OP was being racist. It is a certain type of people who give us all a bad rap. I see them on the street and Marta everyday, pants sagging, loud conversations, cursing-while towing their kids beside. I am a black man and I am tired of this behavior. I see the disgust on many of my fellow commuters and I wish I or them had the courage to tell them to just shut up, but I would probably get shot. It is ignorant when people of different color label us all the same and flee the area. This is what turns decent areas into ghettos.

You make the main point. The Dutchtown area is different from the other areas of Henry County where lots of blacks are moving. Fairview and Eagle's Landing are really upper-middle class. The Fairview area (North Henry County...attending the Woodland and Stockbridge clusters--see maps in previous post), is starting to get into the same league of "Black Affluent Areas" with Cascade, Sandtown, North Fayette, South Fulton, South DeKalb, Lithonia, Stone Mountain, and Redan.

Well, I guess if "everyone" else is doing it...
I can't quite understand the overblown reaction to a few audience members that didn't know how to act. If it was poverty and blight creeping into your neighborhood or rampant violent crime in your immediate area I could see your point. But you're talking about one incident that didn't meet your standards of politeness. Have you thought about complaining to the school administration?
White flight is a concept that just doesn't make sense. I definitely wouldn't give up where I've chosen to live without a struggle...it seems like the cowardly way out. Someone who, in my opinion, isn't as good as I am or doesn't have the same background or morals that I have moves into the neighborhood - big deal. I guess I can live near just about anyone as long as they don't bother me.

I can see where the original poster is coming from. When I lived in Fayette a few years ago, the Fayette Pavilion had a lot of people from neighboring Clayton come in and the place changed. Much of the problem had to do with the younger "thug" types who would fight outside the movie theater or stores and the number of assaults and robberies in the area went up dramatically. It's not the race of the individual thats the problem, its they way some people (especially some of the younger ones" behave that is the problem.

It wasnt just the incident at the pageant that caused me to flee Henry county. That just caused me and my wife to move about 6 months sooner than we had planned. As I mentioned in my original post I grew up in Clayton county and have seen my home town turn into a complete warzone. While this didnt happen overnight the change was so sudden that it took most of us long time Clayton county residents by surprise. As far as White Flight goes if your hometown changed from all(insert race) to all(insert race) in just a few years very few if any of the original group are going to stay. Churches leave, businesses leave, etc.... and all new churches and businesses catering to the new group move in. Then it no longer resembles your hometown!

So...what else happened that caused you to run away from Henry County? The school event was all that you mentioned so far, so it sounded like that was the reason.
I have no problem being a minority, i.e. living in a community where the majority of residents are of a different from my own. I've lived in one for 14 years now and never had one issue or problem concerning race. If the area began to look shabby or crime skyrocketed, and that caused a decrease in property values or I felt that my life was in danger - then I would move away. Other than that, I don't have any problem at all living in a diverse community. I like it.

I'm just saddened that all it takes is just ONE minority family moving in for the whole neighborhood to go into a complete shift. No effort made at all to even get to know that family and help that family become situated with the culture of the neighborhood.
It's not like people of color can just instantly buy houses in an all white neighborhood. It took a white family to sell the house to a minority family for the complete shift to be initiated.
