Locust Grove
Hi - my family (husband plus middle schooler, and two preschoolers) will be moving to Locust Grove area this Spring/Summer, from Birmingham, AL. We are probably be going to be moving to Ola School area, maybe Luella - does anyone have specific advice on these two schools?
Also, I will be looking for a good, hopefully Church based preschool. In my searches so far I have found Locust Grove United Methodist. Is anyone familiar with this or other preschools in the area?
Thank you.

Well, unless things have changed in the last 2 years, the area this poster is referring to is not diverse at all, but it is desirable and dynamic (Locust Grove, Luella). Ola Elementary is a great school, I haven't heard anything bad about it. Not sure about the preschools though, but, since schools in the Locust Grove area are pretty good, I can imagine the preschools would be.

Thanks for the advice, I really appreciate it.
Let me just say I want to be excited about coming to GA, but the posts on this entire forum (I have not only looked in Atlanta forum, but general GA as well - my husband's job is actually between Macon & Atlanta) anyway - all I can say is for the most part this forum is depressing!
It seems as though a small percentage have good things to say about GA, the more I read the more I feel that way. Is it really that bad?
I LOVE where we are now south of Birmingham, it is a beautiful place to live and it has been a wonderful experience for us. I am just hoping GA is not as bad as all these discussions make it out to be.

In most online forums I think you'll find complaints outnumber positive comments by a significant margin.
People who have negative experiences are often looking for change or just sympathy, so they will make comments seeking such, while those who are have positive experience tend to like things the way they are. They don't have to say anything. But that makes the forum seem devoid of positive comments.
The same was true on timesharing systems, in conferences and echos on BBSes, and in the forums, RoundTables, and conferences on various online services long before there was a public internet. I think it's human nature to complain.

Thanks and rcsteiner you are probably right - it just seems so negative! Thanks for helping to put that in perspective.
IMISSNY, thanks to you as well. We are not 100% what area, we are trying to narrow that down right now. School is probably our most important priority do you know anything about the middle schools?
Do you know anything about the Heron Bay community? Any specific info would be great on anything about the Locust Grove area.
I know how it is to miss where you are from, I am originally from Illinois have been in AL for less a year. =) I miss the people from home, but I am loving the South!

Locust Grove
I am originally from the North. They are building a new middle and high school in Locust Grove that looks to be very good. Ola is also a very good school. Luella Middle is getting a little rough. Ola is more like a country school. Heron Bay and the area around 155 is very diverse. I hope this helps.

Why do you like diversity? Are you looking forward to the days of failing schools, increased crime, and white flight? If not, I'm afraid that you're advocating such indirectly.
