Thanks again.
No problem...I use Langford Pkwy/166 and get off on the 3rd exit, Main St./Fort Macpherson. Cleveland Ave is further down south on I-85 and, seriously, I have no occasion to use Cleveland at all. I can be Downtown in 5 minutes (it's about 5 miles), at the airport in less than 10 minutes, and Midtown in 10 minutes, and Camp Creek Marketplace is 10 minutes. The schools are Fulton County Schools. Camp Creek is the nearest shopping...there is a nice new Kroger a couple of miles from my house on Headland Dr. and a MARTA station a few blocks from my house. If I were a shopper (which I'm not) I would take MARTA to Lenox.

PKCorey - I live a couple of blocks off of Delowe...I probably wouldn't choose to live on Delowe because it's a busy street and it's a little run down looking. The homes are newer (60s-70s ranch) because the streets used to end in my neighborhood one block before Delowe (an older neighbor told me about that), and when they built them on through to Delowe, the developer was different and built a different style of house. Some streets in my neighborhood: Kimmeridge, Montrose, Thompson, Linwood...

I lived in EP in the 70s and it went through a definite dark period. However it re-emerged and is growing and becoming very appealing. Its worthy of consideration especially if you need ready access to the Airport and Downtown (Lee St is a snap usually). I don't know about now but back in the 70s, the Police Dept had a repuation for being a bit provincial and they would aggressively ticket anyone (residents and visitors) for minor traffic offenses as a means of revenue generation for the city. Of course it is always good to have a good police force though you want them to be concerned about protection as opposed to traffic ticket quotas. At one point it bordered on the absurd but they eventually backed off. Perhaps a current EP resident can comment on the situation now. Also keep in mind that not all areas of EP are pleasant places to live so you need to thoroughly evaluate the house AND surrounding streets.

I have had only positive experiences with East Point police...they have caught me speeding a couple of times, but I was speeding. I haven't ever heard anything about the situation mentioned above, but it could still be happening for all I know.

Not to sound sassy, but I would assume that anyone would look at the surrounding when purchasing a house. Of course all areas of East Point aren't attractive - no city is pleasant top to bottom...they all have good and bad. The neighborhoods I mentioned (and others in E.P. and College Park) are strong enough to be pleasant for several blocks, and any decline is gradual...so it doesn't go from pleasant straight down to poverty.

I'm not selling anything, so I wouldn't recommend even considering the area to anyone if it was bad. Here a group of East Point photos I found on flickr: East Point - a set on Flickr

My comments relative to the EPD were more for nostalgia value than as an indicator of current experience. The fact that the EPD, 35 years ago ,had a very small town mentality was also true of many places in areas surrounding Atlanta - including Atlanta itself. But things have changed since the 70s and EP has improved significantly and continues to do so.

And not to be sassy either, I see many buyers ,in all areas, who unfortunately neglect to thoroughly check out the streets surrounding their potential home. And, more commonly, they don't visit the area at night or at random times to get a more realistic snapshot of life in the area. Or they don't time their commute or consider appropriate routes,

Sounds crazy ? not really. I see it all the time...it can be like a romantic crush...Buyer sees house, buyer falls in love with house, buyer wants to move in NOW ! buyer doesn't (or refuses) to see the bad aspects of the house or immediate area. Usually there is someone present to play the role of the comforting friend and help balance out the emotionally charged decisions.

Obviously the more conscientious buyer instinctively approaches the purchase process with a critical mind. However, many have to be coached and/or should always proceed with a friend or spouse who is more rational - again this relates to any locale
