Education and career services company, Kaplan Inc., signed a lease Wednesday for a nearly 100,000-square-foot building in Alpharetta, which the company said would accommodate its growing back office functions and bring 75 new jobs to the northern metro area.

Atlanta will soon get a high-tech cancer research institute.
Clark Atlanta University will team up with Georgia Tech to launch the Collaborative Cancer Genomics Center, a state-of-the-art gene sequencing facility at Clark Atlanta.

The region is also attracting interest from the private sector.
Dendreon Corp., a Seattle-based drug maker, is looking at Atlanta's south side for an $80 million manufacturing facility that could create at least 300 jobs.

Seattle-based biotechnology company Dendreon Corp. confirmed Monday it will build a $70 million manufacturing plant in Union City, Ga. As first reported by Atlanta Business Chronicle in its July 17 print edition, the plant will create around 300 jobs and will make Provenge -- a treatment that helps deal with prostate cancer that does not respond to traditional hormone therapy.

First Data moving HQ to Atlanta

First Data Corp is moving its headquarters back to Atlanta, the company said in an earnings release on Friday.
The global payments processor has been based in Greenwood Village, Colo., since 2001.

Atlanta Business Chronicle reported last year the payment processing giant was expanding in Atlanta and could add 250 jobs by 2012.

Wipro adds Atlanta jobs - Atlanta Business Chronicle:

On Nov. 13, Atlanta Business Chronicle reported Wipro had signed a new 19,000-square-foot office lease and bringing 180 new jobs to Piedmont Center 4. Wipro is housing its business process outsourcing unit in Piedmont Center 4. The lease was for six years.
Wipro has said it plans to employ 500 people in Buckhead. But the expansion has been delayed by the economy. Wipro already has about 35,000 square feet in Eola Capital’s Piedmont Center 14.

Kaiser Permanente plans $400 million metro expansion


Kaiser Permanente is moving forward on a $400 million expansion of medical facilities in metro Atlanta, officials said Friday. The five-year plan would add 20 facilities to the company's existing 17 here, with a goal to place all metro Atlantans within a 15-minute drive of a Kaiser medical facility, company officials told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Kaiser, a giant insurer that also owns and operates its own medical facilities, expects to add 500 jobs to the area through the expansion.
