The guy whose house we were at on New Year's Eve had relocated from Jersey just as we had. We met him through mutual friends who had done the same. When I asked him what town he lieved in he told me the adress was considered to be unincorporated Fulton County???

camp creek and south fulton parkway are going to become middle to upper middle class and the areas around 1-85 and closer to clayton county will be industrial and blue collar. mark my words

Any suggestion about neighborhoods west/south to the airport?

Thanks a lot for the input!
Hello and Welcome!

I recommend looking in these areas (based on your criteria):

1. Historic Downtown College Park
2. Historic Downtown East Point
3. Most of Hapeville

(all areas are very close to the airport)

All three areas offer cute/nice main streets, thriving/vibrant/improving downtown and historic districts, and quality housing.

*Note: For College Park and East Point I said "Historic Downtown" for a reason. Though other parts of both cities are very nice, many areas are still hit and miss. It's important for you to know this. If you someone will be assisting you, don't just say interested in "College Park" or "East Point"...you have to be specific to which parts (historic downtown!). For Hapeville, most of the city will suffice.

Also look into...

4. The Camp Creek Area
-in and around Camp Creek Marketplace (great shopping!)
-West of of I-285, not east of I-285!
-Points further west from Camp Creek Marketplace on Camp Creek
Parkway

5. Cascade Road Area/Sandtown
-a few exits north of Camp Creek. Very nice.

I hope this helps. Good Luck!

I have a client who lives off Orchard Street in Hapeville and loves it. The area is very nice and there is some more redevelopment going on nearby. He bought a new house a few years ago in the high $300s.

If you need to be near the airport, this is one of the best I've seen on the northside.

A couple of neighborhood suggestions in East Point:

Conley Hills...Home - Historic Conley Hills Neighborhood Association

Jefferson Park...Jefferson Park Neighbors Association

Egan Park...The Village of Egan Park

Each site has a photo gallery...Conley Hills and Jefferson Park are historic districts with mostly older/restored homes. Egan Park is historic as well, but there are many newer, larger homes there...like these is Egan Park:

Allenrtw is on a distinguished road
First of all, thanks to all of you who put your great thoughts on this thread - I did not expect to have so many responses when I posted the question.

Also, I apologize for not providing enough information. I will be working in Delta Airlines’ HQ, which is on the north side of the airport and pretty close to Hapeville. Currently I am living in Eagan, MN (the former Northwest Airlines’ HQ), 10 minutes back road driving to work in a peaceful neighborhood. I enjoy my current life style and therefore want to keep it once I move down to Atlanta. A little bit more about myself: I am an Asian who spent the first half of his life in his own country, came to the U.S. for a less intense life (office hour 9:00AM to 9:00PM, plus 1-hour commute each way, for a monthly salary of USD. 100… you get the idea), got a degree in my beloved Michigan school (Go Blue!), choose to go to Minnesota for work because Detroit scares my shxt out.

I flew down to ATL over the weekend and checked some neighborhoods, and the following are my impressions, which might be wrong.

Buckhead/Lenox Park : vibrant and lots happenings, definitely over my budget. And I was told it may take an hour to Delta HQ in peak hours.

Vinings: Peaceful yet still convenient in terms of shopping/dining. May meet my budget if living in a smaller apartment. My only concern is, again, the commute time. It took me 35 min to Hapeville in off-peak (4:00~4:35) hour. Not sure how long it is going to take if I leave my door at 8:00AM.

Hapeville: I checked a newly built (actually, still under construction) apartment there. While the facility looks nice and the price is reasonable, I saw NOTHING around the community. Judging by the input from Aries4118, I guess I should pay a second visit to the area…

Midtown: Although remotely, it reminds me of Detroit, period.

To conclude, I am weighing Vinings and Hapeville now but still having concerns about:
Vinings: actual commute time during peak hours
Hapeville: Safety and convenience of living (grocery shopping & dinning)
Any follow-up thoughts, please?
