Vinings should be open during rush hour. South -285 is clear. Most of the traffic is going northbound.

Why not follow suit like so many other Delta folks and check out the Fayette county, Peachtree City area? There are nice apt complexes, comfortable environment, and many out of staters. You are surrounded by shopping, and you get to ride in your golf cart, if that's your thing. Very suburban, family environment. But okay for singles too, depending on what you like. Friendly place and pretty.

Midtown Atlanta = Detroit? Scary!

Wow Midtown reminds you of Detroit? I don't see where you see those similarities because Midtown is considered one of the best areas in Atlanta.
Which area of Midtown were you looking at?
If Midtown scares you that musch then you should probably look at these other locations that have great amenities surrounding them and will put you within a 15 minute drive to the airport. These areas Include Virginia Highlands & Inman Park which have more of a neighborhood feel that you might be looking for with great access to everything in the city.
You will also be doing a reverse commute going Southbound on 75/85 South and coming home in the evenings so traffic is a breeze!
Good Luck!

Hi oldhousegirl,
Thanks for the advice. Comparing to Vinings, Peachtree City does not look better in terms of commuting to Detla HQ (based on google map, probably not the best source of information). Besides, although I am not a fan of night life at all, I think I will go to Midtown/Buckhead couple times a month to hang out with friends, since i am still single.

Hi Atlantasfinest,
Sorry if my haste comment about Midtown offends you (or anyone). As I said, it is just my first impression and the feel of Detriot is "remotely". I think I will have to visit ATL again before signing any lease contract, and I will try to take a look at Virginia Highlands & Inman Park as you suggested. Thanks.

Just curious, has Camp Creek Village been completed?

The pics and links of the areas you posted are gorgeous. I'm more for older style houses, and spread out land. The wife prefers modern construction/mcmansion types (like the ones in Camp Creek). I also like detached garages (if I can find a house with one). How far is East Point from College Park by the way? Thanks again.
Allentrw,
A good thing to look at is being able to commute by train if that doesn't bother you. I'd look at that as well. Are you a city person, or more of a sububanite? You have options, plenty from what I see. Good Luck! I hope GA works out for you.

Also, I apologize for not providing enough information. I will be working in Delta Airlines’ HQ, which is on the north side of the airport and pretty close to Hapeville. Currently I am living in Eagan, MN (the former Northwest Airlines’ HQ), 10 minutes back road driving to work in a peaceful neighborhood. I enjoy my current life style and therefore want to keep it once I move down to Atlanta. A little bit more about myself: I am an Asian who spent the first half of his life in his own country, came to the U.S. for a less intense life (office hour 9:00AM to 9:00PM, plus 1-hour commute each way, for a monthly salary of USD. 100… you get the idea), got a degree in my beloved Michigan school (Go Blue!), choose to go to Minnesota for work because Detroit scares my shxt out.
I flew down to ATL over the weekend and checked some neighborhoods, and the following are my impressions, which might be wrong.
Buckhead/Lenox Park : vibrant and lots happenings, definitely over my budget. And I was told it may take an hour to Delta HQ in peak hours.
Vinings: Peaceful yet still convenient in terms of shopping/dining. May meet my budget if living in a smaller apartment. My only concern is, again, the commute time. It took me 35 min to Hapeville in off-peak (4:00~4:35) hour. Not sure how long it is going to take if I leave my door at 8:00AM.
Hapeville: I checked a newly built (actually, still under construction) apartment there. While the facility looks nice and the price is reasonable, I saw NOTHING around the community. Judging by the input from Aries4118, I guess I should pay a second visit to the area…
Midtown: Although remotely, it reminds me of Detroit, period.
To conclude, I am weighing Vinings and Hapeville now but still having concerns about:
Vinings: actual commute time during peak hours
Hapeville: Safety and convenience of living (grocery shopping & dinning)
Any follow-up thoughts, please?

Like I mentioned in my previous post, I also recommend taking a look at Historic Neighborhoods in East Point and College Park and the Historic Downtown districts in those cities.
Good Luck!

I think East Point is all 30344...and College Park may have two zip codes, I'm not sure. So searching 30344 would result in all of East Point, not just the neighborhoods you're looking for. I'm sure there are rehabs in the historic areas...mine was a rehab (still is and always will be I guess) but it was very much livable from the beginning, and we've done projects all along when we could afford them.
I don't know of any delapidated houses in my neighborhood...and it's a diverse mix of ages/races/backgrounds. Living right around me I have: on one side...a mid-30's family with a 2nd grader and a high schooler and a Lhasa-apso puppy; on the other side...a retired teacher in her 70's; across the street...a 30ish professional couple no kids. I'm not really family friendly, but the area is. I have 3 dogs and have met MANY people all around the neighborhood walking their dogs, and there is usually a small group with their dogs in the fenced little league baseball park a couple of blocks away from my house. When are you going to be in town?
East Point is north of College Park, about 5 miles from Downtown Atlanta. It takes me 5 minutes to drive Downtown, and 10 minutes to drive to Midtown.
