Many areas not just in the inner-city but also the suburbs have zip codes as high as 98% or more black. I'd say overall though, the entire metro is about 90%. I had a friend that lived in Suwanee and always found it funny she considered herself isolated from the black population. That's not possible here, even if you go in what are traditionally considered non-black areas, the majority of people that work there and commute there are black so there's no way around it.

90%?? No way. I dont believe everything I see or read online either, but there is no way the whole metro area is 90% black.

Don't worry, it's not. Metro Atlanta is roughly 33%-38% Black (depending on the area covered, other factors, etc.)

Census 2010
I'll be so glad when the 2010 census data comes out. Then we'll know the real story on lots of cities.

The Census always notoriously underrepresents people of color, especially blacks, as many are not even reported, particularly in underclass neighborhoods. Atlanta metro area has far more blacks than 38%.
And why would someone "worry" about that? Fear?

Yeah but it is still way under 90%. And I think she was trying to be funny when she said that. Trust I would have no issues with Atlanta if it were 90% black.

As much as I didn't want to comment on this thread, I am going to. To me, it's pointless what the percentage of black people in the metro is.
The above poster's statement is asinine. While we have a very large percentage of black people here in the metro, you will only find such a huge majority of black people in areas on the south side of the city, i.e. Clarkston, most of Clayton Co., Lithonia, Camp Creek/Cascade, and parts of Stone Mountain. Statistically those areas have a percentage of black people in the mid to high 80s.
Most of the other parts of the metro have much lower rates, somewhere around what was posted in the 30s and less. The further out you go, the whiter it generally gets.
The biggest percentage you could probably get is to add up all the minorities. I would say the metro is somewhere around 60% minority.
Once again, it shouldn't matter, but alas, even my world isn't perfect. Let's just not exaggerate about it.

No. Metro Atlanta is no more than 40% Black.
People exaggerate a particular group's number when they fear or have prejudiced/racist views against the group.

^I can agree with that. I was probably being a bit high. We shall really see when they census is taken next year, however one poster was right in that people of color are notoriously under-represented.
