Hello all,

I must say I have become quite interested in the Demography of metro Atlanta, especially the minority population sooo.....I was wondering if anyone had some current information about the black population the metro. If you have any other interesting statistics I would love to see it!

I wish I could remember a thread where somebody posted census estimates for each metro county divided by race. The interesting thing is that evey county in the metro area had a higher percentage of minorities in 2007 than in 2000. The one exception is the most remarkable as the city of Atlanta, while still majority black had a huge increase in its white population.

However I am like you and considering the hour, not in the mood to hunt that thread down. Maybe someone else will remember it and post a link. Anyone more industrious for our friend Tdiddy than I am right now?

Last stats I saw were from around 2005 and had the black population around 35 or 36 percent give or take for the metro area.

I can find a lot of information on the net, much of it in map form, but most of it is between 5 and 10 years old.

Yes metro Atlanta has the second highest black population in the country behind new York. I believe it surpassed Chicago's last year.

Metro Atlanta has to be around 90% black. Don't believe the statistics you see online or wikipedia, etc. I would say to believe what you see with your own eyes. The fact of the matter is, no matter where in the Atlanta metro area you go you'll find that blacks vastly outnumber every other race. Many areas not just in the inner-city but also the suburbs have zip codes as high as 98% or more black. I'd say overall though, the entire metro is about 90%. I had a friend that lived in Suwanee and always found it funny she considered herself isolated from the black population. That's not possible here, even if you go in what are traditionally considered non-black areas, the majority of people that work there and commute there are black so there's no way around it.
