Relocating to ATL and looking for young community
My husband will be working near the Cumberland Mall (Marietta?) and we are not familiar with the area. I have done my homework on schools, since I am a teacher and mother of 3 little ones. I am looking to live in a young, family-oriented area that is GREAT for kids. I really don't want my husband to have more than a 30 minute commute as he currently travels 1.5-2 hours each way now. We are trying to change our quality of life from NY to GA and know that the commute has been a miserable part of that. Any suggestions would be great. I know Walton, Lassiter, and Pope are the best, but not sure if I HAVE to be in those or not. Any thoughts on neighborhoods/schools would be great. I really want a fun/social place to live. Thanks!

Don't know your budget, but there are some amazing neighborhoods in Smyrna...very family oriented. I highly recommend Rebecca Mohandiss http://www.citysidenews.com/. She is a gem of a realtor and knows the area very well. We just moved out of a great neighborhood called Paces Ferry Park which is 5 minutes from Cumberland (we moved for commuting reasons) and can honestly say that we've never experienced a more family friendly neighborhood such as this. Every kid was under the age of 10 and there are so many activities going on at all times. In the Teasley Elem district which is great.

I recommend looking Sprayberry and Wheeler high school districts. Many great neighborhoods and great elementary middle schools.
For Sprayberry, look into these elementary schools: Kincaid, Addison, Mountain View, Nicholson, Blackwell, and Chalker
For Wheeler, look into these elementary schools: East Valley, Sedalia Park, and Sope Creek

The Cumberland Mall is on the eastern edge of Cobb County right north of Vinings and just east of (and on the other side of the freeway from) Smyrna.
It's right at the intersection of I-75 and I-285.

Thanks for your input...I see on the one post you mention elementary and middle schools...what about high school? Is this generally a private school area? I really don't want to have to put my kids in private school if I don't have to. What are the schools in Vinings like? Thanks for your input!

Since he'll be working on the Cumberland area, East Cobb will offer lots of options but I also recommend you consider Kennesaw in Cobb. The southern most part of Kennesaw will only be 20 minutes from that area. The nothern part will add 15-20 minutes. There are really a lot of choices.
What is your price range and housing requirements. I have many clients living in these areas and they all like them. Schools are all good and quality of life is excellent.

You should move to Downtown Atlanta. There are some apartments called Centennial Place Apartments. I hope the name gave you a clue because the apartments are down the street from Centennial Place Olympic Park. They also have other tourist attractions such as Coca Cola Center, Georgia Dome, Georgia Congress Center and many other attractions. There is also a school called Centennial Place Elementary school (3 minute walk) on Luckie St. There is a local YMCA and Boys and Girls Club that kids walk to or ride the bus to after school. They have an excellent activities and academics. Plus, if your a mom that loves to hang out, the Luckie Lounge is 5 minutes down the street from the apartments. And I'm in high school so, there are many high school students that tutor your kids at the following after school programs or that can babysit.
