Interracial Dating in Atlanta metro area
I'm a black female and I really enjoy dating outside of my race and all of that good stuff. But living in/near Atlanta seems to make that very hard. Not to mention that I go to school in Milledgeville which I think I've only seen ONE interracial couple within my 3 years of being down there.
Where are you folks at? How in the world is anyone supposed to meet people of another race and date them without feeling judged? Seems like everyone wants to stick to their own kind and not venture out.
I'll be graduating in 2010 and I just want to know where is a good place around Atlanta where interracial dating is easier than most places?

Its more of a curiousity/rareness factor than being judged. Rural parts asides of course

There are plenty interracial couples in metro Atlanta and they are not limited to one area. You might prefer to live inside the perimeter near downtown Atlanta. Interracial couples are not limited to that area by any means, but some younger people who are dating tend to prefer the city life. There are interracial couples in rural areas, but percentage wise, I imagine it to be less common than the percentages found in metro Atlanta.

I always found for the most part that areas around military bases to be the best place for interracial dating and marriage. The Military institution(one of which I am a part-time member) itself is the BEST in the world when it comes to socializing with people different than oneself and developing close relationships. No other area in civilian society even comes close to matching the close ties that comes with being involved in the national defense world.
Try relocating to Warner Robins where Robins AFB is or the areas outlying Fort Stewart and Fort Benning. You will see a LOT of interracial neghborhoods and marriages, and more than likely meet an eligigle marriage minded military spouse of another culture.
For starters? Get a Civilian Federal Govt job at one of the military bases. In no time at all you wiil find a career military member who is ready to make the big jump, that is of course IF you are ready to deal with the sacrifices of being a military wifey. Just my two cents anyways...

You are right about the military...this has actually been chronicled in several books and the like on race relations, interracial dating, etc.

You must be careful in those "rural areas".
You know how they are.

If the small town area is around a traditional military base(not a Reserve base or National Guard Post) then it wouldn't be too bad. Those areas are more socially progressive.

You know I never thought about interracial dating in the military. I think that would be a good thing to try and move near. However, I don't know how I could handle my spouse leaving for extended periods of time. BUT I am graduating with my nursing degree next year so maybe I could just go with them wherever they go

Some military jobs are more highly deployable than others. The U.S. Air Force has the shortest deployment tempos of all the services. Public Affairs, JAG, Administration, and various other administrative type jobs see deployments of only 4-6 months compared to 12-24 months for the other services. Get yourself an airman husband.(Yeah I'm in the Air Force Reserves so naturally I would be biased in favor of my branch)

I always liked the way Air Force sounded better anyways If I could choose a branch to join, I'd probably choose that one
