Sweet Atlanta Peach is on a distinguished road
Default Clayton Board Fires Superintendent

I suppose this will start to turn things around. I don't know why the other Board members hired him in the first place.

That whole thing was a complete joke from the get-go. Before they hired him, he "demanded" a personal driver on call 24/7, a much higher salary than the quarter of a million per year he settled for, and even "personal security staff" around his home. Obviously he didn't get all of that, but he got a hefty salary and did little to nothing for it.

The saddest part was if you ever heard him speak on TV (which he tried to avoid), his grammar was incredibly poor, yet, he was picked to super a school system (??).

They say they're hired a firm to find someone. Let's hope it's not the "ABC Super finders" service again.

Personally, I think the Clayton County School board should grow a pair and try something new, daring, and creative. I remember a couple of days ago about how Clark Howard was talking about Finland's approach to its school system, and how that country allows its teachers to be as creative as they want in setting the curriculum. Sort of a Free market-type of apporach as it were.

But I doubt those bureaucrats would do any such thing. More than likely they will ask the state for more money to throw at the problem and pray that the SACS Committee will just rubber-stamped them back into the fold. We really have some incredibly ignorant leadership in this state.

There is a bill passed by the Senate and in the House that would add more control at the state level for local school boards. The bill will try and prevent this kind of thing from happening by setting standards, a code of ethics, and eligibility requirements for those running for school board positions and will also provide legislative and executive oversight at the state level when the standards and ethics aren't met by the local board. It's hard to believe nothing like this existed before.

I knew John Thompson would not succeed right from the start. I think his hiring was just one more incompetent move by the Clayton County school board. Unfortunately I don't think the members of this board are bright enough to realize how incompetent they are. The less you know, the more you think you know.

That's what happens when there is a lack of diversity in thought and opinion. Too many people in this state live in a bubble or an echo chamber where the only thughts and ideas they get is from others like themselves. Unfortunately, it's the next generation that will suffer for this ignorance.
