I read what others have said and I think I am going to disagree with some points....Cartersville is to far! Sure it's cheaper, but you said you guys are well-educated right? Also, while areas in Smyrna and Marietta have their issues, the northern/western parts of Cobb County are fine. We've had kids in the school system for 13 years now and we have had good experiences with all of them. You might even find a small home to rent in your price range...I would try Acworth or Dallas for that.

In short no matter what city you choose--Cartersville, Woodstock, Kennesaw, Acworth; there are going to be plenty of areas to avoid.
In Marietta and Cartersville there are plenty of neighborhoods that are not too safe, especially in many of the apartment complexes but there are still some nice ones left. In Marietta the nice ones will be out of your price range but you will find some in your price range that are nice in Cartersville. Cartersville isn't too far. It is less than 10 minutes from Acworth. It is at a slower pace than Cobb but it still wont feel anything like what you're used to.
Kennesaw is very nice and the best place for someone of your type to live, BUT it is a college town so you must be aware of that with some of the apartments you consider.
Acworth has its bright spots and like Cartersville moves at a slower rate than most of Cobb but it is growing very fast. Acworth as you get closer to Emerson/Cartersville has a lot of trashy parts full of drugs but the parts closer to Kennesaw and Woodstock is where you will find the bright spots.
As for Woodstock I've only been there for a few different reasons but the few people that I know live there have no major complaints.

Another question I was wondering- How far of a drive is it from Marietta to the nearest beach??!! Are the beaches there nice? Do you have any recommendations about any beach town in particular? Thanks!

Most folks seem to gravitate toward the beaches in the panhandle, which are around a 5-6 hour drive. If you wanted to go to Tybee or St. Simons, you're looking at around 4 hours. I haven't been to either yet, so I can't really provide a recommendation.

St Simons is nice, quaint lots of unique things about it. The water is a little murky...my only complaint. Also you can check out Jekyl Island a short scenic drive which we really liked......check out the Turtle museum, hunt for sand dollars. The panhandle beaches are very nice, soft white sand and blue blue water. Lots of choices...some family friendly (Santa Rosa, Watercolors) and some more geared towards the younger party crowd (Panama City, Destin). Not as quaint or historical as St Simons. I have never been to Tybee but I hear it being described as have a "vagabond" flavor...whatever that means.
The drive to St Simons (Tybee) is very easy and you have the added benefit of being able to visit Savannah. The drive to the panhandle is a little more difficult in my opinion (and longer as well).

Hello again friends- can anyone tell me about the Kellog Creek Rd area in Acworth? What do you think of it? Is it safe? Demographics? Thanks, any info would be appreciated. My family and I are trying to decide on a few different places to rent a home while I go to school at Life Univ, and there is a home for rent in this area that may be available.
Thanks again!

I will have to respectfully disagree. Kennesaw is so not a college town LOL. A college town is a place like Athens or Tallahassee! The kids who attend KSU are going to be commuters most of the time. Sure there are a few apt. complexes, but there are only 2 inside the actual city limts. And the others are fine anyway. There is a huge shopping area attached to Kennesaw and they are about to build an upscale shopping area that is like the Avenues of East Cobb and Dallas. I went to Kennesaw State University for 2 degrees, it isn't a party school at all. I remain in contact with some professors there who choose to live in Kennesaw themselves. Acworth is literally right next to Kennesaw, so they are now pretty much one in the same. Acworth has developed a lot in the last few years, lots of shopping and restaurants there. Either area is fine as are the schools. I would say though, and if I had it to do over, buy in the Kennesaw Mountain High School district. That school wasn't built when we bought out home and we are not in that district. My daughter plans to apply for a science/technology magnet program they have there so we won't be moving any time soon!

I have several friends in several different apartment complexes in Kennesaw. I have no idea if they are in the city limits or not but they are in what is considered Kennesaw. At all of my friends places there are A LOT of college students in the complexes and a lot of parties. Kennesaw State has changed over the last few years and a lot of students are actually living in Kennesaw now. Kennesaw isn't a college town where you will find a lot of the students in the subdivisions; but you will find them in the apartments. Granted not all of them but a lot of them. Either way it is still a nice town but you still would have to be careful on what apartment you choose.
You are the same person that thinks Cartersville is too far even though it is 15 minutes from Kennesaw
