What's the public transportation like in the area? Specifically from Acworth to Marietta, and vice versa. What about from Acworth to Downtown Atlanta to watch the Braves, Falcons, etc..? I'm excited to move down there!

Well there is some ... http://dot.cobbcountyga.gov/cct/docu...p_June2008.pdf ... but Cobb County (and metro Atlanta generally) has pretty sketchy public transportation. People mostly rely on getting around by car.

There is a huge shopping area attached to Kennesaw and they are about to build an upscale shopping area that is like the Avenues of East Cobb and Dallas. I went to Kennesaw State University for 2 degrees, it isn't a party school at all. I remain in contact with some professors there who choose to live in Kennesaw themselves. Acworth is literally right next to Kennesaw, so they are now pretty much one in the same. Acworth has developed a lot in the last few years, lots of shopping and restaurants there. Either area is fine as are the schools. I would say though, and if I had it to do over, buy in the Kennesaw Mountain High School district. That school wasn't built when we bought out home and we are not in that district. My daughter plans to apply for a science/technology magnet program they have there so we won't be moving any time soon!

I'm a new member, but I saw this post and I just have to clarify something! I currently attend Kennesaw State, and I do agree that Kennesaw is not really a college town as compared to Athens, but KSU has changed a LOT the past few years. We have upwards of 20,000 students, and while yes, there are lots of commuters, lots of us now live on-campus and in surrounding apartment complexes in Kennesaw, especially around Busbee Parkway. These complexes, while not entirely made up college students, have a big KSU population. I would not recommend these to families not because of violence, etc., but because of noise issues and late nights. Also... LOTS of traffic around KSU not only because of the university, but because there are a lot of interstate entrances/exits on Chastain Road.
As for Atlanta public transportation? I would probably forget about it - I have lived in Atlanta my entire life (22 years!), and never used it. The people who do use it tend to be sort of sketchy, which is sad, because with all of this traffic around here, we could use some decent public transportation! You could expect around a 40 minute drive to Turner Field, Georgia Dome, etc., from Acworth. It looks like you are thinking about moving to Acworth... I live close to there, and I really love visiting the Downtown area. They have great shops and restaurants, and there is a wonderful park and a brand-new movie theater. Also, Acworth Beach is located there... not so much a beach, more like a lake with some sand thrown next to it lol, but there is a playground and picnic area next to it and it is a great place to spend the afternoon in the summer! Great place to live Western Cobb County, where Acworth is located (more NW, I believe?) is more desirable than Southern Cobb County, where Life is located, but it does tend to be more expensive. I have lived in Western Cobb County for more than ten years, and there happen to be no apartment complexes within the specific high school district I live in, which is pretty strange for Cobb.
Well, good luck! I hope you don't experience a huge culture shock after moving from quiet, no-traffic Montana! Haha

Thanks for the heads up Ashley- I'm anxious to get down there. Acworth looks like it's going to be the place we live. Do you know of any web-sites that has good pictures of the Acworth or surrounding area?

Kennesaw State has changed over the last few years and a lot of students are actually living in Kennesaw now. Kennesaw isn't a college town where you will find a lot of the students in the subdivisions; but you will find them in the apartments. Granted not all of them but a lot of them. Either way it is still a nice town but you still would have to be careful on what apartment you choose.
You are the same person that thinks Cartersville is too far even though it is 15 minutes from Kennesaw

Yeah I am. And I do think it's too far. That is an opinion, you have heard of those? It's certainly going to take more than 15 minutes to drive from a home in Cartersville to Life College. 15 minutes from one interstate exit to another, sure. But that isn't real life in metro-Atlanta traffic. A college student with a family to balance as well might want to shave off minutes any place he can. And I see you agree with me....that Kennesaw isn't a college town, which is what I said
Of course there are going to be parties where young people gather. Who said otherwise? Also, I was still going on the possibility that he would be renting a house OR apartment. There are plenty of affordable houses for rent in the area.
