Not to bump this thread back up, but here is a great article posted on CNN.com today on why blacks have moved back South, aside from economic reasons. Hopefully BringBackCobain will read this--especially the following exerpt:

Quote:
Civil rights legislation and a more educated society made the South more tolerant and hospitable. The booming economy provided jobs and opportunity. But there is also an emotional element for many African-Americans when it comes to the region.

"I think a big part, aside from the economy, is the kind of historic roots that blacks have had there," Frey said.

"There is something culturally attractive about the South to the African-American population even though they spent many decades surviving brutal treatment during the Jim Crow period and a lot of the racial discrimination that occurred."

That's very true. The South is the African-American homeland. Sure, we could point to Africa and say we're part of this tribe or those nations, but since that history was taken away we'd never know for sure even with the most advanced DNA technology.

Why do some people talk about race when it is a nonissue sometimes, even if Atlanta loses more blacks they aren't going that far becasue a lot of blacks are moving to the suburbs and a lot of whites are moving to the city and I don't see a problem with that, with all of the regentrification going on in Atlanta a lot of people are going to be priced out of the city in the coming years and the outskirts will be more affordable, me personally I like living among mixed crowds because I think being around just your own race is boring, you learn from being around people from different cultures and this is America and if black people want to leave Atlanta they have the right to do so.
