Residential highrises approved for Gwinnett Place | ajc.com

I just noticed this today, and I was wondering what anyone else had to say about it, or if anyone thinks that it will actually happen.

I think Gwinnett Place has tons of potential, but we'll see what everyone else thinks!

I think it's a good idea at the wrong time and probably not being planned well. Just build it and people will come. Condo's?? Doesn't Atlanta already have too many Condo's on the Market. This is not being planned well.

I think it's a great idea. If any of you had bothered to read the link, the developer is talking about starting this in 18 months or so.

Gwinnett Place has unlmited potential. Why write off an area that could possibly serve as the true hub of the County?

Gwinnett does need a hub...but driving through Gwinnett Place, highrise development would seem to be a bit premature. If there were some firm commitments for rail service into the area, I could better envision it.
On the other hand, perhaps in 15 years or so I will be admiring the downtown skyline from my penthouse in the Trump Snellville.

^LOL! Or perhaps the Waldorf-Astoria Lilburn.

I was thinking along the lines of suburban Toronto. I would hope rail is a given, but who knows? I think it shows that they may be finally "getting it" out there - there has been a huge resistance to highrises in the past.

This will not work and is a poor decision.

I have serious reservations that it will ever come to fruition, however, I'm happier to see something different being thought about in the Gwinnett Place area. Gwinnett really does need a hub, and the area really has a ton of potential to become that. I think the idea is a much more live/work plan than what is there now. I'm hoping this is the beginning of something new for Gwinnett!
