Hello..thanks for taking the time to help. I am a young, single female physician with no children who is relocating to Atlanta for a 1 year fellowship in Emory. I don't know the area at all. I am looking to rent a condo/apartment. My ideal place would be first and foremost: SAFE neighborhood, nice area with things to do for a single person, driving distance to to local emory hospitals. Any suggestions on areas that I should be focused on.
Thanks!

I would recommend Virginia-Highland, Candler Park, Inman Park and Decatur (city). All have walkable entertainment districts and are very accessible to Emory.
The neighborhoods around Emory are some of the best that the city has to offer.

Here's a shameless plug for my neighborhood - Inman Park. Check out these websites:

www.inmanpark.org
www.inmanparkvillage.com
N. Highland Steel | Perennial Properties

It's about 4 -5 miles from Inman Park to Emory. I set the odometer from my client's new condo to Wesley Wood's at Emory.

Good luck!!!

I would agree with all these suggestions but depending on how long you want your commute to be, Decatur can be a little tedious (if we're talking about "downtown"). North Decatur and Clairmont Roads back up horribly during rush hour...it's taken me 1/2 hr to get from Emory to Decatur at 4 in the afternoon. The section of Briarcliff Rd. between Virginia-Highland and Emory is much clearer and would take maybe 10 min max to get to campus.
