I lived in Lawrenceville, near downtown, and worked in Duluth off of Pleasant Hill and 85, and it would take me about 25-30 minutes. I'd used to take 316 but when they started all that construction it was a nightmare so I'd usually take 29 to the Ronald Reagan Pkwy becoming Pleasant Hill and I was there. Not too bad. I worked for a month and a half in Buckhead, and that was a mess. Took me about an hour each way.. not fun.

About 15 minutes from Vinings to Georgia Tech unless I leave between 7:30 - 8:30 AM, then it's more like 20 minutes. The return trip can widely vary, especially now that they shut down two lanes on Williams Street. In non-rush, it's about 15-20 minutes back, but during rush hour, it's more like 40 minutes now, half of that spent going from Atlantic/10th to the entrance ramp on I-75 N on Williams Street.

LOL @ a 45-50 minute commute as "not bad at all."

If I were able to leave the office by say, 3:30 pm each day, what would my commute look like then?

Good Luck! I live in Dacula,(Hamilton Mill Area) and I work on Peactree street in downtown Atlanta. It depends on what is happening on 85 south. I left today at 7:06 am and did not arrive in my office until 8:30. The traffic is brutal. If you leave on a normal day at 7:15. You will get into downtown about 8:05. But you can never leave your house past 7:20 and expect to make it by 8:30. It's a solid hour commute, any way you toss it. I also recommend driving into Doraville to catch the MARTA. I will do that. If I leave my house at 7:00, I will get to the MARTA station about 7:38 and catch the 7:45 train into downtown. You have to move it fast though, because it takes time to get out the car and down into the tunnel and up the stairs to the train. If you catch the 7:45 or 7:55 train then you are safe to arrive downtown by 8:30. It's 25 minutes to the Five Points Station were I get off on MARTA. It's all very brutal, everyday to commute. I am definetely going to relocate this summer. As much as I love Dacula, it's just not worth it to commute.

I live in the South part of East Cobb and it takes me 20 minutes to Midtown in the morning and 30 minutes in the afternoon to go home. (14 miles)
Fortunately I carpool with my husband and we can use the HOV lane.
Until a few weeks ago we use to live in the North part of Buckhead and it took us about 30 minutes or more to get to Midtown (9 miles). The traffic on 400/I 85 was getting worse every week.

We are happy with our commute now.

28 miles from Alpharetta to downtown Atlanta (Peachtree Center) takes about 50 - 60 min if I leave home at 9 AM. I get off around 7 PM and it takes me 40 min to get home.
