I am interested in moving to Atlanta ASAP! I currently live in Baltimore, there is nothing going on here. It has always been my dream to move from MD. I have two kids so I would like to move into a neighborhood that I feel comfortable in, and that is also resonable.

I was considering going back to school while I am down there. I was looking at Bauder College and studying fashion. I am a certified Make-up artist. I would love to stay in that field and get into fashion as well eventually.

I have a few relatives and friends that live down there as well. They absolutely LOVE-IT!!!

Does anyone from Atlanta have any suggestions in regards to how/should I get started? Please advise.

Thanks..

Tishea

I would fly down here and spend some time driving around the areas you think you might find appealing. Maybe your friends and family who live down here can give you pointers as to where to start, and looking in areas around the school might be a good idea as well.

Once you find an area or two you think you like, consider hiring a buyer's agent to do the heavy lifting for you. If you give them a list of requirements, they can go through the existing listings and isolate only the properties which meet the criteria you specified.

If you can, you might also consider renting a house first before making a commitment to buy. That would allow you to take your time when learning about the Atlanta area (the metro is relatively large, after all), and it might help you to find a better area for your specific needs than you might find if you're more in a hurry. We did that, and we don't regret it at all...

Thanks for your response. I have a car so I am not that worried about public transportation. Yes I am going to rent first and get familiar with Atlanta before I make a commitment like that. Thanks again for the encouragement because packing your stuff and moving out of your comfort zone can be challenging.
I am actually in the process now of trying to sell my house.

Yeah, I know how that is. My wife and I ended up moving here on three weeks notice from the Minneapolis/St. Paul area. She gave her notice at work, and we packed up our entire household in two U-Haul trucks, hooked the cars to the back, and drove almost 1200 miles to Georgia with just ourselves and three kitties.

It was an experience I will never forget. But I was already out of my comfort zone, being unemployed and all, so it was a good change.

Good luck! We simply didn't have time to do that, so we had to juggle the mortgage up there with rent down here for almost a year. Not fun.

Hopefully you have adequate funds to last you 6+ months without a job- they're in short supply here. You'll also likely need to drop a hefty deposit on your rental if you've got no verifiable income at the time you sign the lease.

Thanks for your response.. However if in fact I can sell my house for a good price I will be okay with putting down a hefty deposit. I will also have some funds that should last 6 months. We'll see what happens.

Lightbulb Freelance Make-up Artist

I just received my license in Make-up artistry and my Ideal job would be to work at MAC cosmetics or be a Freelance make-up artist. Would anyone happen to know about that industry down there.

As of today I am still working on a degree, but I at least have that certification until I get it.

I heard that Atlanta is more so on the degree thing than experience is that true?

Nothing down here but pollen and no-jobs. Why are you trying to leave the DC-Baltimore area?
