It mus have been very sad here 40 yrs ago. the only thing i will miss about here is the church its multi cultural and at least the ppl there seem ok. Wut i'm trying to figure out is where will I fit in there? i dont dress or talk like a thug however im no yuppie either
I've lived in cities in just about every region of the country and can easily say Atlanta has the worst race relations of any. My wife has also lived all over and has been horrified by the race problems here. Atlanta's amazingly segregated, so I think you're going to be disappointed unfortunately. By the way, the job situation is horrible here so I hope you already have a job lined up.

Ok so yesterday I am in the breakroom of the building eating lunch right. And one of the sistas in the breakroom is talking about some dude she met at the club in the Airforce. She spoke about how well he treats her, and how nice he is to her, but said she doesn't want to date him anymore because he speaks properly and dresses like Kanye West. She then said she needed a real n!99@ who would not make her feel dumb by being all educated. ....this chick is in her 30s.

In my mind I was like damn??? Dude has himself together and gets no play for it. She would rather be with a loser then dude in the airforce. The sad thing is in the black community blacks like her do exist. I really don't like being around these type of people. Again mike I totally understand what you are dealing with, but I telling you man you should not move. You just gotta be patient, which is super hard when trying to make friends.
Yea cooley thats what im talking about. They like guys that are dumb and dirty. dont have a strong vocabulary and they will run the other way. I think they want us to be cute and quite I guess.

Amazing how southern states can vary among one another. Have a friend with a similar dilemma -- NYState raised, lived in VA, NCarolina, had a much easier time across VA making friends, and even in the Greensboro area. Weird to hear Georgians refer to Virginia as 'up north' . . . despite the confederate capital located in Richmond . . . Oddly, Atlanta metro has felt like major culture shock.

Real shame when intelligence and precise articulation limits, rather than expands, one's social possibilities . . .

I'm an original southern born black man. My relatives have been here since the days of pickin' cotton and never left, even when the going got rough, and in places like Forsyth County, Georgia according to my grandma it definitely was rough in them bad ol' days.

I never had anyone pick at me at about my southern accent, let alone blacks from the north. I've always been able to fit in with anyone. But there is still a divide in race in Atlanta regardless of what people want to claim is the contrary. When the older generation born before the 1960's die out maybe it will change and conversations like these will become less necessary.

I would think so too - Atlanta is a nation-wide mecca in that respect.

I would think JAX is just a small regional mecca for those in northern Florida and Southern Georgia...and that's about it.

My I ask why do you live in the south? Are you from the south or just relocated to it? Do you plan on leaving...anytime soon?
