Actually, if you want to get technical, W. Paces Ferry does not enter Cobb...you have to turn off of W. Paces Ferry Rd. onto Paces Ferry Rd. just west of the interstate. Kind of like how you have to turn off of W. Peachtree onto Peachtree to get to Peachtree Cir. No one said it made sense!

Where I work, we frequently refer to the Raleigh office, the Atlanta office, the Vancouver (Canada) office, etc. Actually these company locations are in Morrisville, NC, Sandy Springs, GA and Burnaby, BC. As others have mentioned, the practice of using the metro name in some contexts is widespread. How many people outside the Raleigh-Durham area would recognize "Morrisville" - especially as there are towns named Morrisville in other states? Should we at the "Atlanta" office have notified the rest of the company (a multinational with offices all over the world) that due to a local incorporation, we no longer have an Atlanta office, but rather a Sandy Springs office?

I think it varies by region. I lived right outside NYC in NJ, but never said I lived in NY. I would tell people northern NJ. My husband was born in the Bronx, spent most of his life in NYC. He told people he was from NY or Manhattan, depending on the person asking. Now we say metro ATL, unless we speaking with Georgians, in that case we say the county or city or whatever....

LOL! The point is that suppose some is coming to see you and you inform them you live in atlanta, and suppose they decide not to rent a car because you said you live in atlanta so they decide to catch a cab and they drive to say marrietta so they would end up spending alot of money because you didnt tell them you actually live in BFE no where near normal distance. example prior to moving to JAX, Fl my friend said he lived in jax when he actually lived in orange park, FL public transportation went where he lived I had to have a car to go everywhere. very expensive

This scenario is a bit of a stretch, to say the least.
I live in Decatur; outside of here, I tell people that I live in Atlanta.
My friend in Swarthmore, PA says she lives in Philadelphia.
My cousin in Winnetka, IL says she lives in Chicago.
My friend in Pepper Pike, OH says he lives in Cleveland.
My uncle in Richardson, TX says he lives in Dallas.
My friend in Kendall, FL says she lives in Miami.
You get my point.

Yeah, no one from NJ or CT would say "NYC" or even the "tri-state area." People who live on Long Island say "Long Island" or "Nassau County", and people in Westchester say "Westchester." I lived in Queens and always said "Queens" to locals and "NYC" to folks when out of town. In Boston, the same thing...I said the "Boston area" to folks out of town and my town to locals.
Here in Atlanta, I say "Marietta" to locals and "Atlanta" to people when out of town. As was mentioned by RRD, most companies have their regional or corporate HQ somewhere outside of the actual City of Atlanta, but they refer to the office as the "Atlanta Office."

Those are details you discuss prior to the visit...I would never make assumptions like the above scenario. If someone comes to visit and is a guess in my house, I try to make sure they have a way to get wherever they want to go because I'm a good host. If they specifically want to rent a car, that's fine too.
It's not unusual anywhere in the U.S. for someone to live the suburbs of a city but say they live in the city. If a more specific location needs to be discussed, then I guess it will be.

Ok, I understand what you are saying, however, I supposed to be moving there soon and I am confused as to where to move too many counties. I hate long drives and traffic and i'm just trying to figure out which county is actully not that far from the city limits. or what area in the city is a better place to live can figure that out all the way out here in JAX.
