I am trying to compare the amount of events, concerts, theater, art exhibitions and general artistic feel in Atlanta to San Francisco and Seattle. Both San Fran and Seattle have quite a bit of theater, music events and art exhibits. The people in those cities also support the arts. How does Atlanta rate to those two cities?
Your thoughts, opinions and factual leads are greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

In order, I'd rank them San Francisco, Seattle, then Atlanta. The former two are just in a class of their own as far as art is concerned. And the class above them in NYC, Boston, Chicago, etc.

The arts in SF and Seattle are bigger than Atlanta, but Atlanta does have a big arts community. You'll find the majority of it concentrated in Midtown. They are planning to build a new building for the Atlanta Symphony, and the renderings looks stunning. Also, High Museum of Art is a must see. They have some great collection of art.

Interesting....why is ASO leaving Woodruff? Art doesn't seem like a big thing here in Atlanta to me. The Artwalk here needs work...Where is the science & history museum here? I almost never hear about art here in the A, its like you really have to search it out.

Symphony Hall at Woodruff is not a premier venue for the symphony...they have been raising money to build a new symphony centery for a few years now, I'm not sure why the delay...

There is a definite lack of knowledge about arts in Atlanta, and many people tend to assume that it isn't on the level of other cities. A little research into the subject shows that there is major support and ample opportunity for every kind of art...art is not always going to come to you - if you really are interested in it, it's here:

Art is in Atlanta, but it definitely lags SF and Seattle. Especially SF, no comparison. A large part of the populace of Atlanta metro despises anything considered urban, progressive, modern, provocative, fill in the blank. Many go no farther than kitsch (but some embrace kitsch quite fervently, bless their hearts). This is not a place that largely considers being sophisticated something to proud of -- and maybe that's not so bad, depending on how you see life.

Thank you for your posts everyone. There was rumor that a show from Seattle and San Francisco was going to open in Atlanta. It was called Teatro Zinzanni. Think Cirque du Soleil with dinner. I am curious if anyone knows about that and what happened to the show?
Thank you.

PS: does it seem that Atlanta supports theater?
