Default Young family from Chicago wanting to move to Roswell or Marietta or Dunwoody, please help!!

We are a family from Chicago that would love to get a somewhat major city (my husband sells online advertising) and get lower property taxes and milder climate. We are sick of paying $16000 a year for property taxes!! We are looking for a nice house that is $400k

Our kids are 3.5 years and 19 months and it is important that they have great schools becasue with our taxes right now at least it gets them some of the best in the country...

We also are jewish although not very involved in our religion, we basically don't want our kids to be the only ones in the their class and are considered about anti-semitism in the south.

Safety is important as well... but i think most nice suburbs are pretty decent that way.

We do not have to move but would love to get out of here if we can find the right place. We would have picked Charlotte, NC but not really any jobs for hy husband out there if he loses his current one

Sorry if this post is long but we are scared of making a move that is not the right one. It seems like there are many more negative posts than postive ones about moving to Atlanta. Traffic sucks but we are from Chicago so not much better here....

THANKS!!!!

I'd recommend East Cobb as well. Excellent schools, friendly people, lots of transplants as well as locals ( a good mix), very family focused. We came here almost 3 years ago from MA and are very happy. My only complaint is the lack of diversity.

I am originally from the Chicago area. The biggest difference (other than the weather) will be the lack of "urban" feel to Atlanta. Atlanta's suburbs are more like the newer (further out) suburbs of Chicago rather than Oak Park or Evanston. Assuming you are okay with a subdivision/car based type suburb, I would also agree with East Cobb or the Alpharetta area. If you want a more urban feel, you would need to look elsewhere. There are places that would seem more familiar that also have good schools, like Decatur, Druid Hills, Morningside, Lake Claire.

We already live about 30-35 miles outside of the city. We like the calmer, quieter life but with access to a big city!
Thanks for the feedback, nice to hear an opinion from someone from this area , but welcome all opinions!!
