The Holiday Inn where you stayed @ isn't really the heart of downtown Atlanta. The best past of downtown Atlanta is North of Marietta Street in the Fairlie-Popular District and the Musuem/CNN/Centennial Olympic Park areas. I would never suggest for anyone to stay @ that Holiday Inn near the Graves Stadium...that's the worst part of Downtown Atlanta and its really in the Summerhill Neighborhood.

I stand by my comments and observations about downtown Atlanta. We stayed at the Holiday Inn because we wanted to be near the World of Coke and CNN.

Has anyone seen the downtown Atlanta Library? What a sad example of what downtown Atlanta has become.

I smell something fishy about this.

His other thread today in the General U.S. section is asking how many places besides rural Georgia have "Larry the Cable Guy" types about.

I find the Democrats that have allowed this city to be infested with every bum, criminal and welfare leach around while doing NOTHING for the average citizen to be what is truly frightening! Nothing but a bunch of race-baiting good for nothings! God I hope Clark Howard runs for Mayor!!

And just when was your last visit to the City? Or are you just regurgitating things you have heard/been told?

Clark has already announced he isn't running.

reet4587 is on a distinguished road
I don't mean to be a contrarian, but I really disagree with people's assertions that downtown is the worst part of Atlanta. It certainly doesn't have the same kind of charm as the midtown and eastern Atlanta neighborhoods like ViHi, Inman Park, Grant Park and Midtown proper, but I really enjoy a lot of things about downtown and I think it has a charm all its own. Try out Centennial Park, Fairlie Poplar (during the week), Peachtree Center and Ivan Allen Blvd next time you're down there.

Not to mention the attractions for visitors like the Aquarium, World of Coke, and a tour of the beautiful capitol building.

Regarding the downtown library: if you were turned off by the interior decor if the building, then I'm with you all the way. It's gross. But if you were turned off by the street life outside the building, I suspect big city visits might not be a 'best bet' for you. Small towns like Dahlonega might prove more enjoyable. I recently visited Washington, Georgia and enjoyed it very much -- I recommend it.

There's a struggling effort to make downtown into "Downtown", but it's never really gotten off the ground despite lots of progress in cleaning things up. I think it will just take a while.
Surely you aren't talking about THIS Downtown Atlanta? This is the "downtown is not where anything is"?
