Has anyone seen the downtown Atlanta Library? What a sad example of what downtown Atlanta has become.

So you have an opinion about the "sad example of what Atlanta has become" based on the Fulton County library branch Downtown? And that means...what? It sounds like just another attempt to slam Downtown Atlanta for no reason...
The main branch of the Fulton County Public Library (not the "Atlanta Library") was designed by well-known designer Marcel Breuer...

....he also designed the very similar Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City:

Born and raised here and work in the city limits of Atlanta each and everyday! My opinions are based on a lifetime of seeing the city of Atlanta run into the ground by black Democrats!

You must live in alternate-Atlanta then, because all I see over the past 23 years is steady improvement in the City.
Midtown has NEVER looked better. Most of the projects are gone. We have a beautiful park where a wasteland existed before. We have a new Arena, a new Ballpark, a fairly new Dome. The areas in every direction from Downtown are making a comeback. Formerly industrial areas are now filling up with lofts & condos. A former steel mill has been replaced with Atlantic Station.
Yeah, they have really run the place into the ground.

But...I'm a runner and on the weekends I do 10 milers that carry me all over town. There's a good part of Marietta Street (between GA Tech and Centennial Park) that's real "industrial".
And I don't think downtown is terrible. But it doesn't compare to Midtown. As an intown resident I'd recommend someone to stay in Midtown and check out the Luckie District of downtown, then hop on the train and come see my hood (Inman/L5P/Candler) and Decatur, and make their way to Buckhead (even though I don't like Buckhead...it's worth mentioning to a visitor to go see).

Your right Bill Campbell was a helluva guy, how could I have overlooked his glorious reign as Mayor of Atlanta! He is sorely missed and an example of a fine black Democrat that did many wonderful things for this city! LOL Plenty of other names could be given but I think Bill Campbell really is the best example of Atlantas leadership.

Tiny little part? Centennial Olympic Park/CNN Center/Fairlie Poplar/Peachtree Center comprise only a "tiny little part of downtown"? I think you may need to take a gander at a map:
Downtown Map of Atlanta
Those areas combined take up about half of downtown.
I agree, though, with your idea about visitors staying in Midtown and visiting Downtown, Decatur and Buckhead on MARTA. Downtown has nice hotels too, but staying in Midtown would give a visitor a good central location.

Meh....I guess because other than my weekend 10 milers I only go downtown when my son has a fieldtrip there...even though I am less than 4 miles away. Most of the "attractions" there aren't sustainable entertainment, meaning they're no good for repeated exposure. Except for Centennial Park. But even then...there are better parks to go to...Piedmont, Grant, Candler, Freedom...Chastain...
I mean, I would definitely tell a visitor to go check out downtown for a day. But I wouldn't recommend for anyone to stay there on a visit outside of a conference.

You stated that there is nothing Downtown...I simply showed the truth - there is A LOT Downtown. I showed five different areas of Downtown that cover a huge portion of it...I didn't show Georgia State University (a great section of Downtown) or Ivan Allen Plaza (another great section of Downtown) or the South-Central shopping district, the Railroad District, the Hotel District (more great sections of Downtown). That's pretty much all of Downtown!
So "industrial" is bad? Doesn't every city have an industrial area or two? I think they do.
I think the "Luckie District" is actually called Fairlie-Poplar. And there is more to see Downtown than that.
