Knowing what I do about the southeast I know that's not the case with Atlanta. I've also noticed that the largest city in a region tends to attract the most gays. Thus Chicago seems to have a large gay population. I'm guessing the same would be said for either Dallas or Houston. I don't know those cities well enough to be sure, though it seems to me that Houston is more progressive of the two (for Texas). Of course Atlanta is also known for the number of gay black men, which surprises me each time I hear it. I would've thought they would prefer D.C., though the exorbitant cost of living might have driven them out. As I understand it D.C. is losing it's chocolate city designation.
DC hasn't held that title since 2005.Atlanta has Largest black gay population black pride and home to largest black same sex couples. There are a lot of men that are in the closet and that are bisexual.. which makes it hard for black women to date here..

I do not let my female friends get away with this kind of talk unchecked. Their lack of success in the dating pool has very little to do with gay or bisexual men. Women who talk like that are making excuses for themselves, and all the while insulting black men, whether straight, gay or bisexual, all at the same time.

Another way is to measure the number of GLBT couples or GLBT-run households. Atlanta is almost always at the top of these statistical lists.
How would you get this information? Does the census ask about sexual orientation? I don't remember if that's a question or not.

Black Gay Pride attracts tens of thousands to Atlanta
But all those people don't live in Atlanta. An event like that would draw folk from all over the region, possibly the country, would it not? I mean are we basing this on statistical data or the number of presumably gay people we see out and about? How are we measuring this?

According to this, the information comes from both the U.S. Census and the Williams Institute, a UCLA research institution focusing on legal issues that affect LGBT populations.

Not crazy about the dude's methodology, but I get that these numbers would be hard to come by. Where's the data for Atlanta, or did I overlook it?

Yeah, I saw that, but I'm googling like crazy and not really finding anything with sound methodology. I get that it might not exist. For instance, part of the criteria for the admittedly unscientific study in The Advocate is the amount of gay porn people in an area netflix. (netflix has porn!?) They don't claim to be scientific, but their "study" is cited on several sites. I'm just trying to find a study of Atlanta with reasonably goid methodology and cipiming up short. I'm not saying the studies cited are wrong, but their methodology is questionable.

So what cities do you think are the gay meccas since you don't beleive ATL is one of them? What is your reason?

Well I doubt that any of them are associated with Islam, so I don't think there's any such thing as a gay (or any other group) Mecca. (Sorry, just a pet peeve of mine.) I'm not questioning that there are lots of gay people here, I'm questioning the methodology by which one could conclude that it's "top ten gayest city." I doubt there really is such a thing, except for on a regional basis. Because of the marginalization of their orientation, gays have traditionally moved to larger cities where they are more accepted. So, Atlanta would be the magnet for the southeasr, especially amongst black people. My guess is Chicago would be the same for the Midwest, and so on. I would guess that aside for some outliers Atlanta probably doesn't have many more gays than a similarly sized city with its positioning as a regional magnet. This survey doesn't take rival causal factors into consideration. For instance, they claim that Seattle is second only to San Francisco, in numbers. I doubt that's true. My guess is that in a city like Seattle which is known for its progressive, alternative lifestyle, people are more likely to be openly gay, than say a more conservative city like Boston. Even so, when you're talking about something like sexual orientation it gets very difficult to count. Even on a census you would only get the people who are cohabitating. I'll go as far as to say that Atlanta may well be tops in the region, for the reasons I've already described, but there's no real way to extrapolate that to a nationwide conclusion.
