Do you have school aged kids and you plan to use the public schools? That is definitely a factor to consider. - I would definitely check out GreatSchools - Public and Private School Ratings, Reviews and Parent Community for school rankings, plenty of good schools in diverse areas of Atlanta. City of Decatur ++ is a good choice, too. Good luck on your move.

You should check out South Fulton County as well. South Fulton county should NOT be confused with South Atlanta or Southwest Atlanta. South Fulton runs south towards Palmetto area so the schools and cities tend to be more diverse than outsiders may realize. But the area is usually classified as predominately black. Most white people in the area tend to send their children to private schools . There are a number of private schools available if that's you interest. As far as neighborhoods, there are upper middle class neighborhoods off Union Road, Enon Rd, Butner Rd. (Stonewall Tell, Union Station(?), The Gates, Herron Creek, Le Jardin, Legacy) All are homes priced around $300-500+ which is a lot more home than what you are describing. Most of these homes are 4, 5, 6 Bdrm. You really need to drive around the area to see what's out there. Someone told me that John Wieland is having a "sale" in one of his subdivisions near Westlake High School.
If you are concerned about public schools, consider visiting the county websites. Fulton county is www.fultonschools.org. if you are considering the South Fulton Area.

Also, Fulton county is divided by race......long story....but North Fulton is predominately white and South Fulton is predominately black. (with sprinkles of Asian and Hispanic populations on both ends) Not saying that's bad or good but it is the reality and that's something else to consider when you want diversity.

Stone Mountain and Lithonia. If willing to send children to private school, I'd consider Niskey Lake too.

Also parts of East/South Cobb comport with your question.
That said, you might also consider areas in the city (like Inman Park) that are diverse and feed to good diverse public schools like Morningside, Inman Middle and Grady.

Stone Mountain/Lithonia has a plethora of great neighborhoods, and they tend to be less expensive than homes in Fulton County. Try visiting some neighborhoods near or along Rockbridge Rd from Panola Rd on down towards Gwinnet County. You can easily find a great home for less than $300,000 in these areas. I got a home a few years ago, but $200,000 was my limit. I ended up with a 5 bedroom, 2.5 bath home, with hardwoods, huge master and master bath, private balcony, great backyard in a quiet, diverse neighborhood in Stone Mtn...and it was less than 200k. Similar homes in S. Fulton would have been around 300-400k. I love my place and don't plan on moving anytime soon!!
