Hi! I'm new to this board. Due to the trying times our annual extended family beach trip has been cancelled this year so my husband and I are looking for a beach to fo to for about a week or so that's not too far of a drive from Atlanta and that will accomadate 1-3 couples....AND that's affordable. Any suggestions?

How about a cottage on St Simons Island? If you're sharing it with two other couples, it's a much better deal than renting hotel rooms.
Check out this website for Hodnett-Cooper. They handle my rental down there, and are very reputable.

Santa Rosa Beach, FL on the gulf nice very affordable check VRBO.com. We stayed in Old Florida Villages a short stroll to the beach, very pretty some pools, golf carts, plam trees and very affordable. Lovely.

Destin and other parts of the panhandle like Santa Rosa blow everything else out of the water IMO.

Everybody's degree of affordable is different-
Here's a list of the most common beach destinations for ATL;
Destin, San Destin, Rosemary, Watercolor, PCB, Mexico Beach, StG Island (FL gulf)
Fernindina Beach/ Amelia Island (FL atlantic)
Tybee Island (Savannah), Cumberland Island, Jeckyl [sp] Island (GA coast)
Hilton Head, Charleston, Myrtle Beach (SC coast)
Outer Banks (NC coast)
Gulf Shores, Orange Beach (AL)

I put Destin first for a reason-
several years ago the AJC had an article about vacation destinations for Southeast- something like 65-70% of those vacationers in Destin where from the ATL area.
