I need help on it, because the only rails I'm used to is in DC. If you lived in say Kensington, and work in Midtown, would it be the same as in DC, where you just get there, get to the connector, rail, and then head to Midtown?

Also, if it is like that, then how long are the waits, because there's an apartment like a block from a Marta and I would rather just take the rail than use up my gas money. Is Marta that popular in ATL?

More info: MARTA - Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority

Yes, when you travel East from Kensington, you would just exit the train at Five Points and walk down to the Northbound platform, and take the train from there to Midtown. No transfers needed and you don't have to walk through any gates to transfer lines like that. Times vary depending on day/time, which will be on their site above.

You'd take the train from Kensington to Five Points station, transfer to the North line and go to Midtown station (or whatever station is closest to your destination). I think trains run every 10 to 15 minutes on weekdays.

Marta is unlike the DC Metro in that it is a much more limited rail system and it costs $1.75 no matter how far you are going.

that doesn't bother me. I'm just happy that there are some alternatives to driving all the time. After looking over the site, it is a lot more limited, probably because atlanta is more spread out, and it would take a long while to build rails to all of those sites.

At least now I know that I can just buy a ticket and use that. MARTA seems kind of popular. When I was interning in ATL last summer, one of my coworkers thought that it sucked really badly. I hope that's not the case.

MARTA is fairly popular and used by a lot of people in Atlanta. It's clean, safe, and efficient...and the trains run more frequently during weekday rush hours (like every 6 minutes?).

When someone tells you MARTA sucks or it doesn't go anywhere or nobody uses it - there is no need to listen to that person...that's usually the talk of someone who has never or rarely used MARTA.

Just put it like this Marta covers the main areas of Atlanta. And most people who complain are ones who still drive and live far out.

About a half-million people use Marta per day; the sixth highest ridership in US. Hopefully when the Beltline is built (which will take many years) Marta's numbers will be higher. By contrast, in D.C., close to a million (I've read 900,000) people per day ride the D.C. Metro.

Before I ever rode Marta, I used to speak poorly of it for no particularly good reason (except that I'd heard others speak poorly of it). Now I use MARTA very often, though. Does it need to go more places? Yes. Should it run later than 1am? Yes, since bars close at 3am. Is it "bad?" Not in my opinion.

+1

To the OP:

Though you will probably be a little disappointed in MARTA after having the Metro as part of your life....

I used to travel to DC a lot and love the Metro. I love MARTA, too, and use it very frequently. But it's, unfortunately, not sufficient for a city the size of Atlanta.

But please use it. That's the only way it will ever grow.
