Smyrna/Vinings is your best bet but you need to be inside the perimeter or you might be asking for it on your commute.

I live near them and they are really great. I wish I could afford them! They are so cool in the inside - I've never seen anything like them (and I'm a kind of a house snob). They seem to fit everything you're looking for and the location is great for where you've got to be.
But really, Smyrna Vinings has a really fun, young, and professional feel. You'd love it!

If you're heading to the west side of Atlanta, you could commute from as far west as Carroll county. Housing prices are around $100 - $125k for your basic 3 bd, 2 ba, 2 car garage, with 1/3 acre.
