ATL's Art District
I was told that there's an artsy neighborhood in ATL. When I mean artsy, I mean like....diverse underground music, not just hip hop, and like artisans and things. Does such a place exist, because if it does I SO want to live there.

That would be the entire east side of town, I think.
Inman Park, Little 5 Points, Candler Park/Lake Claire, Decatur, definitely Cabbagetown, etc....

I agree.
If I'm not mistaking, Midtown still has the biggest arts of the city. Castleberry Hill and Westside have a pretty good presence (probably the up and coming places).

Yes, I keep forgetting about Castleberry Hill, probably because it was just coming on the scene when I moved to town.
And Midtown is worth a look, though it's likely getting to be a little dear. Va-Hi is the same way, IMO.
....cause I don't think the OP means "arts" like high art...like "The High", etc, but rather indie and local...lots-o-that in L5P and Cabbagetown...

For vis arts I would say the Westside/Castleberry areas are your best bets, while L5P and East Atlanta is the best place for music. Midtown and VaHi were arts centers before they became ultra gentrified

But for that whole artsy-fartsy granola crunchy feel you won't go wrong with any of the following neighborhoods:
Castleberry Hill
East Atlanta
Inman Park/L5P/Candler Park (CP is my hood)
Lake Claire (because, come one, that hood with the Land Trust and the drum circles, etc, deserves it's own listing)
Cabbagetown
Grant Park
Kirkwood
Va-Hi and Midtown and Decatur, while wonderful neighborhoods with a nice liberal, progressive vibe, are not so artsy-fartsy granola crunchy anymore....

thanks so much for all your suggestions. There are tons of roomshares on craigslist in this area that are within my budget so I'm not too worried about how to find an apartment anymore. thanks a lot.
