Default Fight Crime!

Now a Tech student was carjacked and shot off of 10th St. last night. Nice.

http://http://www.ajc.com/news/content/metro/atlanta/stories/2009/05/05/atlanta_carjacking.html?cxntlid=homepage_tab_newst ab

Everyone really needs to stand up to this b.s.! People in this city are hard-working, decent Americans...and shouldn't have to put up with all of these stupid thugs. Our mayor doesn't care, so we need to all be responsible for taking action.

I'm part of a neighborhood watch group and will be joining another civilian group soon. I met with my Councilperson over the weekend to discuss crime and intown gentrification. I've joined ATAC (Atlantans Together Against Crime). I write my representatives. I call the police when I see suspicious activity (the above story explains why the police didn't respond as quickly when I reported some strange behavior).

I hope all of you do whatever you can to get us off of the top of the most dangerous city list.

I'm confident they will catch them somehow... word of mouth, witnesses, etc.

The police have quickly caught the last few murders in that area quickly.

And I pray the kid makes it.

No, Atlanta is number 16
Now we do have to admit that it is an improvement. They have been in the top 10 for many moons.
I actually think this is one area in which the slowdown has had a positive impact. Seem much of the crud influx has slowed a bit and some of it that settled here has went back to terrorizing the areas from which they came.

I only hope the improvement trend continues after the election of hopefully a better city government.

#16 certainly isn't "at the top" as stated in the OP.

Well, as long as Shirley Franklin puts public safety on the back burner by furloughing police officers, you can expect decently high crime in the City. Remember this the next time you vote, weigh the candidates carefully, and avoid replacing old Franklin with a mini-me version of herself all over again. The same old same old hasn't worked - time for something new. Think out side the box.

This last incidence involved three young strong college guys who were together in a well lit area, who were attacked by three armed carjackers. They are now thinking these are the same guys who abducted and shot a 19 year old in a parking area in Atlantic Station just 19 hours earlier. They're not hitting people super late at night in out of the way areas - they're doing it in well lit areas where there are other people not far away, and when people are in groups, and shooting the victims even if they comply. These aren't common street thugs - they're very dangerous, and while the overall crime in the City has dropped (stat wise), my opinion simply from observation is that the style of criminals are changing - to a more dangerous type. Fewer crimes, but with more violent and dangerous criminals. Still not good.

I seem to notice a common thread among all these cities, but I can't quite put my finger on it. Maybe it will come to me tommorow.

Atlanta's ranked WORSE THAN COMPTON. That's not acceptable.

In addition, most of the others on that list aren't major cities. We're near the top for major cities.

Elvez has a point about the stats.
