The good news is that in 2010 sometime, McGinnis Ferry will be completed. Hopefully that will help. Best of luck. My advice? Move to Alpharetta.

Yes the bottleneck is the River. I live less than a mile from MF and have to deal with it on a daily basis. I've just learned to avoid it during certain times of the day. In fact I'm usually cursing the Gwinnett/Alpharetta commuters for clogging my local roads.
120 is just as bad, but maybe not for as long a stretch? Because of the twists that the river takes the distance from 141 to PI along McGinnis Ferry is much longer than along 120 or Pleasant Hill. I've never had to do this commute, but my first stab at it would be PI to Pleasant Hill and take that to Jones Bridge, up to Douglas, to McGinnis Ferry to McFarland. I know that Pleasant Hill used to be very bad around the railroad tracks and Buford Highway, but now with the underpass that may have improved. I also know it is still really bad around Satellite Blvd., so I would seek out other ways to get around that stretch. Pleasant Hill (also named State Bridge) is 4 lanes all the way from I-85 to Old Milton and as long as you stay away from the overflowing left turn lanes it should be less congested than other routes across the river. But I might be wrong. Unfortunately in the fall Johns Creek High School will open and that will likely have a bad impact on Pleasant Hill/State Brdige near 141.
Or you could move to Alpharetta or Johns Creek. My house in Johns Creek is for sale. I can get to McFarland in 10-15 minutes, even in the mornings. Interested?
