Default l5p apt. suggestions/avoids

I am looking at apartments in the Little 5 Points area. Does anyone have any suggestions on which ones are nice, and which ones to avoid. I want to be within walking distance to the bars, so I can stumble home. lol. The Bass Lofts look nice, but I think they are overpriced and have oodles of nickle and dime fees.

Check out the ones on North Avenue @ Euclid, on Oakdale (I think they're called Oak Point or something) and then there are the ones on Euclid and Benning. These are all in Candler Park, they're all a bit older, but they're probably inexpensive.

I believe you can find similar pockets of rentals in Inman Park but I am not as familiar...George, where are you?

What's your budget?

Also, check craigslist. It's a great way to find apartments in old houses, etc. There are a lot of duplexes and triplexes around here.

I've been looking at Craigslist, but I am relocating, so it's going to be hit or miss of when I'm in town and whats on Craigslist.

The closest apartments I can find on google maps are Oak Pointe, Euclid Court, and North High Ridge. Apartmentratings.com make them sound pretty scary. Homeless people in the trash, no parking and lots of break-ins.

I called Bass Lofts, online every apartment website says they start at $740, actually it's $940. They have oodles of useless fees, $200-ish non refundable move in, $60 non refundable for a parking fob, $200 non refundable for pets, and some others that I completely lost interest in. I guess they are able to charge that for not having homeless people or break-ins. lol

I'm looking for something ideally at $600-800, but I can go up to $1,000; but that would eat into my fun money. I'm 26, female and single - and I want to live within walking distance to the action.

Those apartments you mentioned are the ones I was talking about. They're certainly not as nice as Bass Lofts but they're not scary. I live near all of them, within a mile. They seem to contain a range of ages - college students up to single moms who want to live in the neighborhood because of the good schools.

I agree with Bass Lofts. However, Bass Lofts is right there in L5P and has more of the modern amenities. But,personally, I don't need all those amenities. I just need a good location.

If I were you'd I'd make a trip down here to tour the apartment selections and see for yourself.

If you're searching on craigslist feel free to direct message me about a location you found. I can give my honest opinion about where it's located, etc.

Is there a rental "Season" in Atlanta? Are the prices of rentals based on the colleges in the area? When ideally is the cheapest time to get an apaprtment?

I would guess the cheapest time is late fall, etc. In general people move right after or right before school ends. And by school I mean college and people who have school-aged children.

The summer would be your worst time to get a deal, I think, though sometimes larger complexes do these move-in specials during those times when there are masses of people moving in and out.

I lived in apartments in that area in the '90s and it was perfectly fine, aside from the run down tennis courts and the occaisional dead body that got dumped in the Goldsboro Park gully. I used to walk home from Little Five Points late at night all the timerand never had a problem, except once when I heard a violent fight inside a house near my apartment. When I got home I called the cops and said they might want to go check it out. Three nights later in the middle of the night the cops came to my apartment and said someone called and told them there was a fight in MY apartment. Nice police work.

Nowadays, that area is great. The tennis and basketball courts have been resurfaced and people are always out and about enjoying the neighborhood. I wouldn't hesitate to live there if I needed an apartment.

lol. They sound really nice, besides those dead bodies. I was worried just reading apartmentratings.com about car/apartment break ins, and homeless people in the trash, now those don't seem so bad compared to dead bodies.

JPD is being funny. I mean, he's being realistic...that's the way this neighborhood was 20 years ago but ever since the Olympics came to town the area has gentrified. Now it's fully gentrified. This doesn't mean you never see homeless. Afterall, this IS a real city of considerable size.

As I said before, I would not hesitate to live there again, and if I could go back in time I would choose to live in that area circa '90s, even with the benefit of hindsight. I don't think there's a better place in Atlanta for someone in their 20s to live (not that the OP is necessarily in their 20s, but that was my age range when I lived there and it was ideal).

By the way Pless, that was you on AJC.com yesterday, right? (CDC statistician living in CP, likes jogging.) Congrats on your success.
